Anyone Had Good Results With CELEXA?

Posted by Emmie on April 18, 2004, at 11:03:46

Are you on Celexa or know someone who is, and does it help with your depression? My doctor just prescribed it for me. I would DESPERATELY like to come out of the slump I'm in...I have taken Wellbutrin, Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil...they haven't worked for me.

I'm praying to hear that good results can be had with Celexa. Please help. Any information appreciated.

I've had good results with it when I havn't had good results with paxil, zoloft, effexor, and remeron. Ps, I found 10mg (half tablet) just as effective as a whole. But take a whole if thats what you've been prescribed.

I had the worst experience with it in my whole life. I felt like I wasn't myself anymore. I took it for about 5 months up to 30mg for social anxiety. After experience with Celexa, I'm afraid to try another SSRI.

Rianny,
did it work at all in any way for the social anxiety?

If it did what was it about it that made you decide not to take it anymore?

thanks,
Damian.

No, it did not help social anxiety AT ALL.
It just seemed like get things worse than ever. I haven't had proper sleep while I was on it. My sleep cycle was tatally screwed, and I had very sharp pain at jaw joints that I actually had to sit down for a few minutes if that happens when I'm outside. Other lots of side effects, too.

I have had good luck with it. Not a perfect drug, but when I get really weird, (way, way, down) it has been a life saver for me. My biggest complaint with it is the apathy I get from it, and it is a bit hard on my stomach. But those 2 problems are tolerable. I have been experimenting with it on my own and I have found that 10mg for 20 days and then 20mg for 10 days a month works best for me. Basically I up the dosage to 20mg for 10 days before my period.

Tried Effexor, was hell.

For me, one word: hypomania. It works well for my sister's fibro-related depression.

Hi Emmie,

I'm taking Lexapro which I've heard is pretty similar to Celexa. Lexapro can be great for depression. It's really frustrating to try and find the right med, but you'll get there.

Hi,
Yes , pretty good effects here though it took me 2-3 months to work upto 20mg.
I hated the other ssris apart from remeron which did nothing.
It is a bit of a personality changer for me, rejection sensitivity down to Zero, assertiveness up 100% and it did begin to make me a bit "overassertive" so I also dropped down to 10mg and that is much better for me.
It stopped me going into an absolute hole after my much loved and wonderful mother pased away and for that it must have been very effective.
Not in my experience anywhere near as good as xanax for my particular form of anxiety but generally I would say good stuff.
It is also I beleive the least likely to interact with other meds which is useful.
Don't give up, the ones that worked for me were numbers 22 and 23 - xanax and celexa, but the journey is horrible, I know!

Glenn

Hi Glen and Rianny,
thanks for your replies.

I do have assertiveness issues! lol :O)

I'm currently on a tricyclic antidepressant amyltriptiline which does nothing for social anxiety and I have been on it for many years.

Some people mentioned hypomania and apathy, I wouldn't mind having more energy (my totem animal should be the sloth! :O) and apathy doesn't sound too bad either, that is if it replaced the social anxiety!

Sounds like Celexa is a 'maybe' but over on
remedyfind.com Lexapro seems to be the king.

Not sure if I should bother with an ssri or just find a psych who will treat me with klonopin
(MAOIs are a no go I mean I love cheese etc).

Damian.

Wow, thank you everyone for your replies! There's some very helpful inforamtion here. You were even so considerate as to mention other drugs that do/or do not work in your experience...also the different affects and moods these drugs create. That type of detail is surely helpful.

I appreciate all the words of encouragement, too. Yes, it is a long, hard road to finding which med will work properly. Whew! It's exhausting and a bit disappointing at times. From being able to talk with you all, I'll be able to continue trying.

Blessings.
