neurontin for migraine?

Posted by bookgurl99 on April 17, 2004, at 18:36:42

Howdy --

Would anyone consider Neurontin for migraine? I'm currently on Depakote, and I'm realizing that I'm not as sociable, creative, or active as I was without it. I'm also having really blank emotions.

Have you had the "stupid" effect on Neurontin? Do you want to be less (healthily) sociable? I'm just wondering what people's experiences have been.

I have read on another board that this does work for migraines.

I am on neurontin for back pain and anxiety. It helps, but it does give you that dull affect.

I have had menstrual migraines for over 20 years. I was given neurontin about 4 years ago. The headache specialist said it held promise based on a study. Well, I started at a very low dose (100?) and gradually tried to work up; 400 made me so tired! I stopped when I read the actual migraine study: they saw results when the people were taking 900 mgs twice a day! Shortly after, there was a report on tv (Dateline or 20/20) that showed how the salespeople were PUSHING NEURONTIN to drs with claims of relief/cures for MANY medical problems. Anyway, my migraines never responded to anything- ADs, beta blockers. Fioricette is the only thing that helped alot. Thank God I found a "normal" ob'gyn who does not have a problem giving me 20 a month. The headache specialists at a world famous medical center always seemed to want to try the "latest" med du jour. I have read many posts about Topamax helping; but it makes some people drowsy.(I think 50 is recommended) It does help my headaches BUT I am in menopause and my migraines are not nearly as severe as they used to be. How often do you get them?
