Lamictal Info?

Posted by Angielala on February 9, 2004, at 10:03:31

I was on Depakote for a year and a half. Made me a zombie. I have been off since Christmas time. I have been having the worst downs and got irritated over everything.... so I had a pdoc appt last Friday. He put me on Lamictal.

Can someone let me know what they think of Lamictal? Any side effects (other than the rash) I should look out for?

Hey bride-to-be!!! How you doin? :) I was on Lamictal and started at 100 mgs, even after I insisted with my OLD (yes, I switched after this mess!) Pdoc that I should tirate up slowly... He still started me on 100, He wasn't very bright. I can't telly ou too much about it, because I was on Lamictal, Lithium 1200 mgs (or 1500 mgs can't remember), Risperdal, Lexapro and Klonopin all at the same time !!!! Woah baby! I was a zombie! I was never on the lamictal alone, so I don't know how it affected me. I eas on all the drugs prior to Lamictal, then when adding lamictal became a zombie.

I jsut wanted ot answer your post and be the first one though hun :) Oh, I need to slow down. I've heard that others have had great results with lamictal alone. With all the drugs Iwas taking, Icouldn't leave my house and failed 2 classes. BUt, I'm sure it was because I was completely over-medicated and even got to withdrawl after the semester was over, due to this.... Hope you find the answers you are lookimg for hun..... Bye bye sweetie pie!!!

SOrry to waste your time, and don't expect results like mine... Again, I was over-meidcated!!!!

You NEVER waste my time! I'm glad you replied first :)

Depakote made me a zombie, and I'm pretty sure that Paxil has pooped out and has stopped working, so I'm reeeeaaaallllly hoping that with Lamictal's AD effect, I'll be the happy-go-lucky girl I once was :)

How are you feeling now?

I'm so bored at work- let's chat!

I have been on lamictal over 4 months and am currently on 400mg and have had no side effects. I am also on prozac, remeron and most recently lithium. As long as you start lamictal on a low dose, slowly increase dosage, you will decrease your chance of getting the dreaded rash. Lamictal has been a good med for my unipolar depression.

I started Lamictal a couple of weeks ago and am still at the 25 mg/day stage (about to move to 50 mg), so I'm hardly a veteran. I found that it caused a bit of restlessness/activation for the first couple of days (nothing unmanageable). Since then, it seems to have improved my mood and I'm a little mellower than I was before.

I take it with Klonopin and Adderall, which I've been on for quite a while. So far it seems like it has potential, and I haven't noticed any side effects other than the initial activation that I mentioned, which was very short-lived. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will help with the depression and feelings of being overwhelmed that have been creeping back.

The Klonopin and Adderall do a pretty good job there, but I need a little more stabilization, and so far Lamictal is encouraging -- I'll keep you posted.

Hi there, My dughter and i are both BP2...she has more ups me more downs...she is on Lamictal right now and just added Topamax for break thru cycling...we are both rapid cyclers...she really likes Lamictal for the depressive side of things and helps with most of the mania.....I found it worked great for me for about six months and then I crashed bad into a depressinon...but while it worked it was great..I had lots of side effects but I do tend to get them all...flu effects, major cramps during TOM, headaches but eventually they go away.
I am on Topamax and am going to go add Lamictal again for depression as the Topamax seems to not be helping that much......but Lamictal is definately worth a try.....my daughter really says it helps with the buzzies....you know what I mean right.....

Hello
I have a question for all of you on lamactil. I am at a crossroad in my dx. I am either Bipolar II or ADHD. I also feel I have severe pms. I have other hormonal problems that resulted in high risk pg's. Anyhow, I feel i am adhd but my therapist says bipolar(rapid cycler). Her reasoning is too high of impulsiveness to be adhd. Anyhow, I may be put on a mood stabilizer. I tried trileptal and topomax in the past and became extremely moody. OMG was I bad. one minute i would be fine. the next min, bawling. the next min, wanting to committ suicide. So I am terrified of mood stabilizers. But if my pdoc goes with what my therapist says, I may be asked to go on lamactil. So, what can i expect? Oh, and would it help with any adhd symptoms?(distracted easilly, no concentration, frustrated easilly because of lack of following what people are saying or trying to teach me. there's more but i'll leave it at that. It has gotten to where if i'm at work i don't think about this mess but at home where i have more time on my hands, i am consumed by it. I get depressed and mad all at the same time. I hate this.

I understand completely. Thank you so much- it gives me a lot of hope (which is more important than anything else!)

Keep me updated on how you are doing :)
