The Mildest psycho-stimulants ??

Posted by Psychopoppy on December 3, 2003, at 19:41:38

What are the mildest, least aggressive stimulants (ie. something to help me need less sleep and be able to spend more time awake and alert) available in the pharm-market today ?
does anyone know of any ?

Provigil comes to mind. If that's too strong, I'd consider piracetam and other nootropics. You may want to try some OTC solutions, too. There are a lot of stimulating herbs, etc.

stimulating herbs ??
do you mean like Gingko and ginseng ?
are there any others that are known for their nootropic and "wakening" effect ?

And, thanks for the input. :-)

Provigil (modafinil) is a good one, although expensive. I took it for a while and found that it provided an energy boost without causing anxiety. It was a useful med for me in some ways, but since I was supposed to be taking it for ADD and it didn't really help with concentration, I switched to Adderall, which has been much better for ADD.

But for alertness, Provigil definitely is worth a try, and your doctor should have some free samples -- it's being marketed very aggressively.

I consider Dexadrine to be quite mild. I take it and don't feel like I am on anything. Ritalin makes me feel horrible.

Vinpocetine fits that description. Research it for more info.

You can also buy a ginkgo/vinpocetine combination -- Costco sells it quite cheaply.
