¿VALCOTE sube los niveles plasmaticos de ZYPREXA?

Posted by BORN-IN-CHILE on October 16, 2003, at 23:18:55

ES CONOCIDO QUE LOS ANTICONVULSIVANTES , POR EJEMPLO CARBAMAZEPINA, BAJA LOS NIVELES PLASMATICOS DE OTRAS DROGAS ENTRE ELLAS ZYPREXA, SIN EMBARGO EN ALGUNA OPORTUNIDAD APRENDI QUE VALCOTE( DIVALPROATO DE SODIO ) SUBIRIA LOS NIVELES PLASMATICOS DE LA OLANZAPINA ( ZYPREXA ) , Y DE HECHO, EN MI PRACTICA CLINICA , DE ESA FORMA PUEDO NO AUMENTAR A DOSIS DEMASIADO ALTAS DE ZYPREXA, CUANDO EXISTEN PROBLEMAS ECONOMICOS ¿ ALGUIEN TIENE INFORMACION O CONOCIMIENTO DE LO QUE EXPONGO ? GRACIAS

Hi - I would like to respond to your note but I don't know how to read Spanish. Could you translate your note into English?

I'll take a stab at it ....

It is known that anti-convulsants (sp), for example Carbamazepina, below the Plasmatic(?) levels of other drugs among them Zyprexa, although in some oportunity I learned that Valcote (???????? of sodium) will raise the plasmatic levels of Olanzapina (Zyprexa), therefore, in my clinical practice, in that way I can keep from raising the dosage of Zyprexa too much, when economic problems exist. Does anyone have information or knowledge of what I am proposing? Thanks.

Please be aware I have done a *literal* (word for word) translation for you which may or may not totally convey the essence of the message....Hopefully they will respond as you have asked.~~~8|8

I did some internet searches. It looks like Valcote (Depakote) is used in combination with Zyprexa. I copied a couple of articles.

Thanks for the translation!

5. Double blind study to assess the safety and efficacy of valproic acid (Depakote®), an anticonvulsant, in combination with an atypical antipsychotic medication versus the use of either the antipsychotic alone in the treatment of psychosis in hospitalized patients with schizophrenia. During the four-week study, patients will be randomly assigned to one of four groups receiving the following medications: valproic acid plus risperidone (Risperdal®), valproic acid plus olanzapine (Zyprexa®), risperidone plus placebo, or olanzapine plus placebo.

No soy positivo, sino que creo que algo de la literatura la dice dosis en algunos casos. Excuse mi español
