Can someone tell me for sure if it would be safe to take Melatonin (for sleep) with MAOI Parnate?

The only info i could find online was at Virtual Hospital about herbal supplements that said MAOIs may increase the melatonin serum concentration. Wish i could be of more help. Good luck, Melodie

Not for sure, but. i took melatonin a few times while on Parnate and was fine. Nothing unusual or bad happened. (Took about 1-2 mg; was on 30mg Parnate). i figured it was just another one of those things where they say not to take something with an MAOI (just to be safe). But that thing about increasing the serum concentration is a good point-- i didnt know that or think about that. Also it's possible that w/ an MAOI taking melatonin might raise serotonin levels excessively (since serotonin is a precursor to melatonin but not sure if mel. is metabolized to 5-HT).
