I took Zoloft during my second pregnancy at the end of my first trimester (because I became SO depressed by then I couldn't be unmedicated any longer). My son is fine -- he's 5 years old now. But I have a unipolar depression, not bi-polar, so I don't know if that drug would be a good choice for you. Hope a few more people reply to your post. I DO think you need to contact your doc about this ASAP.

Hang in there.
Lynda

Hi Dinah,

During my 2nd pregnancy, I took 50 mg of zoloft and 1 mg of ativan at night for sleep. It wasn't an easy decision to stay on the meds and I consulted many docs before I decided to remain on my meds. Please talk it over with your psychiatrist and OB, since there may be some drugs that are "safer" to take that still give you some relief. If you can get through the first trimester med free, you may feel better about going back on in the 2nd and 3rd trimester.

I know it is a tough call and I wish you the best in your decision. Please feel free to email back to talk more. BTW, I had a perfectly healthy little boy.

Sincerely,

Nicole

Before I decided to get pregnant, my OBGYN put me on 50 mg of zoloft. When I found out I was pregnant, I went off of it. I actually did very well until about 6 months into the pregnancy and started having panic/anxiety attacks. He put me back on zoloft, 50 mg and gave me Xanax .25mg, but only like 5 pills to get through it until zoloft kicked in. Of course I only took 1 xanax cuz I was nervous about it effecting him. My son is just fine. Good luck to you. There are those out there that know exactly how you feel, and I am one of them. You will get through it. It's tough as nails, but be strong! Talk to your doctor about maybe being able to take something in a low dose.

I truly hope you didn't stop all those meds w/o tapering first, because if you didn't taper that could explain a lot of your symptoms now. I have a diagnosis of bp1 and panic disorder and treated episodes during my last pregnancy. Depending on the severity I took the older APs (like haldol) for mania, and pretty much stayed on klonopin during much of the pregnancy. My 1 year old is perfectly normal. The only meds that are linked-maybe 3% abnormalities-are the AEDs (like depakote) and I only had to take that maybe a week? during my pregnancy. It is a lot worse on the fetus to have severe anxiety then to take benzos (that from my pdoc and ob/gyn) take care, judy
