hey.. okay, I'm currently on 300 mg of serzone at bedtime. I think I've plateaued and am going to suggest increasing my dosage up to 400. (I was on 5-600 2 years ago, weaned off it and am on it again. I found it was most succesfull at 400mg and higher). However, I'm extremely apathetic, have nightmares (which I've had since way before serzone) and take ambien occasionally. During the day, I can fall asleep just about anywhere within a few minutes if I left myself doze off.. but the scariest thing is that sometimes, I just fall asleep. It will be completely overwhelming within the course of a few minutes tot he point where my eyes can't focus on anything. It's almost narcoleptic and scares me.
I'm concerned about liver failure and serzone but since I've been on and offof it for almost 3 years, it seems I am not at such a high risk for it anymore.. but if anyone knows of any SSRI's similar to it, I'd appreciate it..
I tried provigil in the past but it was very short lived and at a short dosage because it has been found to decrease the effectiveness of birth control. Does anyone have any suggestions for enegry levels and depression? I tried EFfexor XR and hated every second of it. Additionally, I tried Wellbutrin for a while and it had no effect.. in addition to Paxil. (the paxil was combined with the serzone and so was the wellbutrin. Effexor was on it's on but I wouldn't try it again if you paid me)..
I also toyed with SAM-E; it did nothing. and I take b12 supplements for a morning boost but I don'tt hink they help either..
thanks everyone...
-looking for peace

I am also in the same boat as the two previous posters. I used Serzone with great success for about 6 months. I went off of it when the liver thing evolved, but have yet to find anything close that works and is tolerable. I was thinking of a half dose with monthly liver checks. The other thinkg I am worried about is TD. I know it is not a known risk for serotonin agonists or SSRI's, but there have been a few cases reported. I really need something for depression and anxiety, and have tried almost all natural and prescription alternatives to Serzone with no luck. I also take mood stabilizing medication for bipolar disorder.

When I took Serzone, I divided the dose into 150 mgs 2x/day, and it seemed to balance out my energy/mood. I did feel a little sedated on it. But I also have a thyroid disorder, so I often feel sedated.
I'm thinking of going back on it. It was the best drug I've ever had.
