Celexa-Morning or Night?

Posted by Krissy P on April 8, 2003, at 21:24:42

Hi all,
Just wanted to see out of those who take Celexa, do you take it in the evening or night and how does it affect you when you take it in the AM/PM???
Thanks so much,
Kristen

Hi, Krissy.
I was on Celexa last year for depression, I took it at night early I go to bed between 10-11, but I took it at 7 or 8. Celexa was wonderful for me, I had NO side effects. It made me feel completely normal for the first time in a while. Good luck to you!

Krissy, I was taking Celexa in the morning and I found I was "very" tired during the day and sleeping my life away. I change to taking it at around 7pm and I have found a big difference in my energy level during the day. I also just started to take 30mg, I was taking 20mg. I am feeling much better lately, but then again the sun is also shining more these days.

Good luck

Hi Kristen,

I have been on celexa for a few months now. Starting at 20 mg and now at 60 mg.
I have been so tired I really don't even want to get out of bed in the morning, I could sleep all day. Taking celexa in the morning or evening didn't make a difference for me.
I have just started decreasing my dose and even skipping a few days.
I know it's always different for everyone so I wish you all the best and hope it works for you.

Jessi
If it was working so well, why did you quit taking it? How did you feel after you quit? Thanks.

It was for mild depression,(a year ago) and the doc said I shouldn't have to be on it for long. I didn't have health insurance, so after I'd felt better for a few months, instead of refilling my prescription, I just weaned myself off of it. It was really a great medication for me, I didn't have any symptoms from withdrawal either.
Now he's got me on Effexor XR, but in addition to the depression, it is for anxiety and ADHD. I don't like it as well as I did the celexa.

The reason I asked was because back in Nov. or Dec., I got a prescription for lex for mild anxiety, and mild depression. I took it for about 4 days and got anxious about the way it was making me feel (the side effects) and then quit. I've thought about trying it again, but part of my concern is what happens when you stop taking it. If you get used to life being good and feeling good in general, when you stop I would imagine that you would feel worse about things than before you started.
Also if the celexa worked better for you, why not go back to it now.....or maybe lexapro?
thanks for taking the time to respond.

I really don't know why he didn't put me on Celexa this time. Maybe because of the combo of problems that I have or Maybe even possibly because I won't have health insurance for another month and he had samples of Effexor XR.
Last year when he put me on the Celexa, was the first time I'd been to a doc for depression. It wasn't a let down after I stopped the medication. It was more like instead of just taking away the syptoms, it completely took away my depression, I was okay for nearly a year afterward.
I'm going to give the Effexor a little while longer. I can tell some progress, it's just been slow. Not like celexa, it was like dark to daylight.
I've heard alot of people have side effects from the Celexa, I was SO fortunate, I don't remember any, even in the first week. What kind of side effects did you suffer from it?
I just thought about it... It may have caused my weight gain... I gained 15 lbs. (but I just assumed it was because I was my happy self again).
Talk again... thanks!

Hi Jessi,
When i tried taking the lexapro, the Se's started pretty much right away. I was tired and kind of felt like I was in a daze. After about the third or fourth day, while driving into work, I had a panic attack, which I hadn't had in quite awhile. I ended up calling in sick to work for two days and figured four days of lexapro was enough. I feel I only have mild depression and anxiety, but things could be better, so I'm considering trying the lexapro again. Maybe some of my problems were just my anxiety about taking an anti-depressant drug.....I'm not sure. I guess maybe I just feel a little weird about taking such a drug.

Jetfixer,
Well, I know everyone is different, but even at a mild depression, medication helps me alot. I've never been in a deep depression, but feel like if I had waited longer to go see someone, it could have been worse. I hope everything works out for you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed about what I'm on.
I tried for months the first time to "fight off" the depression. I thought it was just a low that I was going through. I thought I'd come out of it. It kept getting worse. Mine came out more as anger than sadness. I guess because I'm a very strong person, getting my feelings hurt or being sad has always made me mad, because I like to be in control of things, especially my emotions.
Just don't wait too long to get help, okay? Good luck, with whatever decision you make! Jessi
