Selfmedication/Anti-obsessional qualities of opiod

Posted by Caleb462 on March 12, 2003, at 22:50:38

I think I'm going to begin harvesting my own opium, and will medicate my GAD/OCD/Depression/Social Anxiety by chasing the dragon. Haha, I would love to see the look on my former therapist's face if I told her that.

Anyway, yes I am seriously planning on doing this... but I was just wondering, has anyone else ever noticed the STRONG anti-obsessional effects of opiates and opiod drugs. I take 15-30 mg hydrocodone whenever I can get my hands on it (which isn't very often), and it's amazing how drastically it reduces obsessive thinking. No other drug, licit or illicit, can do this for me. I wonder if there is a relation between the brain's opiod system and OCD. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

Yep-Vicodin was my drug of choice a few years back- I detoxed, and haven't touched the stuff in a year. I had strong anti-obsessional effects on it. I also felt the high, etc. Sometimes I think the mood-aletring drugs-such as the opiods work better than AD's, AP, and MD's combined

ACE, read the following. I think this may be your answer. FWIW, I don't see Lithium being very helpful for your OCD but I hope you are presently surprised. If you want my opinion on what you should do about your OCD, email me at jsmith121@yahoo.com -- you may not like my answer, though.

A psychiatrist I used to see, Dr. Koran, who heads the Stanford University clinic, is conducting a trial of oral morphine for OCD.

So yeah, opiates can help. Be careful though -- addiction is all too risky with any opiates.

After going for a long run, one can achieve a
somewhat breif state of emotional freedom.
Feeling like you can let go. The endorphens
do this.

Enough heroin will cure any mental ilness,
and simultaiusly cause every one.

Warning - Warning - Danger (robot waving arms)

If you think you have had obsessions, just wait till you take opiods on a somewhat regular basis for a month or so. You'll need more, and more, and more...just to feel normal.

Yeah... I hope I don't develop any kind of serious habit. I doubt I'll be able to harvest enough opium to even have a habit in the first place, but I'm well aware of the risks.

It sounds stupid, but I'd actually prefer having a serious addiction right now, over the depression/anxiety/OCD.

actually I do take morphine (ms contin) for depressive episodes and have done so for quite a while. I can't take ADs because I get manic, so this is my drug of choice and it works extremely well. I've gone on and tapered off many times w/o problems- the key for you will be if you can keep it under control w/o escalating the dose- I can- and if you can stop once the depression starts to lift. (and the biggie- getting a doc to prescribe it for you) good luck-judy

No, it doesn't sound stupid, this is what you're feeling-I've been there. I actually thought about ordering Vicodin online today-solely for the high it gives me, because I was feeling so down the last few nights. But, man, I won't do it-I can't do it. I've come too far. And I would definately not be taking it for any physical pain-just emotional. Not to mention I don't even know if it's legal to buy that stuff online???!!!!
Hang in there:-)

Thanks a lot for the support. I definitely need it.

And no, it is not legal to order vicodin online. Ordering non-scheduled meds is fine, and so is ordering a limited supply of scheduled meds with a prescription. However, if you were to get caught importing a schedule III drug into the united states without a prescription, well, yeah... big trouble.

And good for you about not going back to that stuff. I don't want anyone thinking my posts are condoning using illicit drugs to self-medicate, I condone it for MYSELF, but myself only.

Thanks for this! I never would do anything illegal-that's just me-thank the Lord above. How scary! But it goes to show how addicting these opiods/narcs can be!!! And I am proud of myself for stepping away even from the thought! I have to give myself a pat on the back (something a therapist told me a while back-which I thought was stupid!) But in a case like this-No Way would I ever order meds online-let alone a lot of other stuff)
Isn't the internet a trip????
All the best, Kristen
