I take 10mg Ritalin twice a day. my problem is with the duration of each dose. I take the first one at 7am and it starts working around 8 and last until 9:30 or 10, maybe. I have to take another around that time to make it to lunch. My question is rather or not it would be better to switch to the 20mg tabs or just take more doses of the 10 throughout the day? If I took a 20mg in the morning would it last longer or just be stronger for the same amount of time. My second concern is with my Pdoc not allowing me to try Adderall. He said he likes the Methylphenidate and sees no need to switch if the MTH is working. My girlfriend takes Adderall and she let me try it once and I found it to be much smoother and longer lasting. I liked it a lot more, but, I can’t tell my Pdoc because he is really against that and would be VERY PISSED. I don’t wanna switch Pdoc’s because of all BS involved.

what did your pdoc give as a reason for not allowing you to try adderall?
my doc says the same, but it's because he says it is more likely to cause mania (i'm bp II)

Ritalin is a big hassle because of the super-short half-life. You might ask about Concerta 18mg or 27mg once daily.

20mg would pretty much just be stronger but last for same amount of time. If you took 20 in the morning you'd probably have a bad crash/comedown at about noon. Adderall is a bit less smooth and less nice to me than Ritalin, but it does have a longer half-life. i still come down in about the same amount of time though. Concerta is more unpredictable and less smooth than regular methylphenidate/Ritalin, to me, but of course overall it lasts longer without needing extra doses.

How does your pdoc feel about Dexedrine. I'm currently taking it and find it works pretty well, although it doesn't last as long as I'd like it to. I'm gonna go back in a week or so though and ask him to try me on the Dexedrine Time-released capsules.

psybintea, have you considered strattera?
not a stim. half life is 4.5 -5 hours. when it wears out is much kinder than stim. It's an idea
