CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) can be very effective -- just be selective in web searches etc., because this acronym has another, very different meaning in certain "alternative personals" ad forums, one which you might find quite disturbing, unless it's your thing (which I doubt).

I'm doing CBT and it virtually cleared my anxiety in 12 weeks.. I still have a little anxiety at times, but it really has owrked wonders, where no drug would help me.

I do it with my psychologist who is trained in CBT techniques... I can't say how or what exactly she did that caused my anxiety to reduce so much... we looked into the different cycles of my anxiety, how it felt, what the triggers seemed to be.. things like that.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I have a very poor memory still, and I'm not reallys ure what she did, but it damned well worked!!

Hi all,

There are a few posts going on the psychological-babble thread on CBT. David Burns is the best known for it - and his book "Feeling Good"

Basically he lists ten cognitive distortions - ways we may tend to think - and how by identifying these distorted thoughts and replacing them with rational thoughts, one can reduce their unpleasant feelings significantly.

I had Kaiser for awhile and the had a great weekly group I attended.

See you on the other board?
