Difference between Adderall/racemic amphetamine?

I'm sure there's a good explanation for this. Amphetamine consists of l- and d-amphetamine, right? While I realize there are four different salt forms of these amphetamines in Adderall, I just wonder if it really makes that much difference in effect?

I think the different racemic salts (sulfate and aspartate) are supposed to be absorbed at a different rate, resulting in a smoother onset and wear off.

As far as anyone noticing a difference, I don't think a dl-amphetamine sulfate only tablet is available. The only choices are d-amphetamine sulfate (Dextrostat, Dexedrine) or dl-amphetamine sulfate + dl-amphetamine aspartate (as Adderall).
