Expired meds

Posted by Kari on February 8, 2003, at 11:42:48

Is there any danger in taking any of the following meds which have long expired: carbamazepine, sulpiride or risperdal (even for a day or two)? The problem is not so much if they would still be effective- I am more concerned about toxicity.
Thanks.

I'd just call the pharmacy and ask goodluck (nm)

Just wondering if there were any signs associated with expired meds: strange smell, etc? Thanks...

I asked a doctor this very question once. He said that meds are still good past the expiration date. They don't somehow become toxic over time. But the farther they are past the expiration date, the more likely it is that some of the potency has deteriorated.
