Resperidone, it's working: but....

Posted by vagen on January 18, 2003, at 8:44:52

I am glad to say that I am starting to feel as though I am stablizing a bit. The only thing is that my muscles hurt...it's been a week only and it just started Thursday, I have not had any more involuntary movements. I just have muscle fatigue going up the stairs and when I was trying to mop--I did speak with the doc on call and she said that we could treat some of the EPS with benedryl. But, today I started having some very slight dizzy spells, we 're talking like 2 secs.
I don't know what to do, it's a three-day weekend here and the clinic will be closed on monday...I am getting so tired of trying and trying and then to think i found something and might have to stop..there is a question here, I promise: should I try some benedryl and see what happens? And if so, how much and when?
have neck pain too. just like w/depakote....
I have been sleeping very well. that is a good thing for sure. am still taking the 150 WB as well.
thanks guys!

My psychiatrist told me to try benadryl for the hand tremors I have. It might be worth trying benadryl to see if it helps. How much risperdal are you taking and what's your dx? I ask because EPS is unlikely if you're taking only a small dose.

Feel Better,

Britt

Hey Britt,

Am taking .33 as a trial as a MS, nothing else has been working, have tried the anticonvulsants, had some minor success but broke out into horrid rashes, doc is sayin I am cyclothymic--but my cycles are very close together...have had a lot of rapid cycling, mind noise, extr anger/rage.
I tell ya, I can lick a pill and have a reaction, I have a very slow metabolism, while I can drop weight pretty quick, meds take forever to get outta my system. And, I have reactions faster than most normal ppl. my mom and sis are the same way.
I did try the bene last night and it seemed to help a lot. I got lucky and ran into a pdoc at the commissary of all places and asked her if she would mind talking for a minute, turned out she was the doc on call!
thanks for the reply, were you on this as well? and, how long? did it work for u?

V

I'm currently on Zyprexa as an augmentation for depression. I have taken Risperdal in the past, .5mg/day and at the time it worked miraculously, pulling me out of a deep depression. I switched to Zyprexa a few months ago in an attempt to pull me out of a protracted disthymic episode. Unfortunately it didn't work. I have confidence something will, though.

Feel Better,

Britt

Vagen...I'm interested more in your story...I am
cyclothymic too...I've been taking ad's plus a mood
stabilizer, but I don't like the past two mood stabilizers
I've tried. Is there an alternative to taking mood stabilizers
to treating cyclothymia? Risperdal is an AP, right? What
are it's side effects? Do you feel it stabilizes you?

Roo,

What AD's have you tried?

I think the Resperidone is starting to work. When it didn't make me 'high' at first, I thought it would work. Depakote made me stoned for a few days, then after a two weeks, I turned into a she-devil. I was so evil. I am on Wellabutrin 150 ER, anyway, we had also tried Lamictal, Topomax: with rashes, dumbness, and numbness, I stopped those right away. We dropped Prozac, had been on that for a long time.
I having some break through emotions, I cried a few times last week, I am feeling more stable, yet, I am not laying all my hopes on this one tho.
But, I think it might be worth a shot.
Side effects so far have been:
day 2: my left arm was moving on its own while the rest of me was asleep!
day3: lots of salviation and licking my lips
day4: extrmeme muscle tension
at this point I called the pdoc, she was surprised that I was experiencing the s/e at .33, but I am very sensitive, as I think a lot of cyclo's are. She recommended benedryl. I have been taking a teaspoon in the morning and evening and that is working for me.
Other than that, I feel like I want to move a bit more. Which is good, cause the depakote killed my metabolism.
I can think.
I can function.
I can reason.
I can carry on a conversation--and the family is laughing at my jokes again.
downfall: lost sex drive: but think that might have been pms.....!
write me if you'd like to talk further: I am in Germany, my husband is in the army, not many ppl I can discuss these issues with!

Vagen--

I take topamax with lexapro. Didn't you mention
that topamax made you feel like "an empty shell"?
I'm afraid it makes me feel that way too...depressing...
