Lexapro

Posted by Rainee on January 11, 2003, at 11:38:34

Just started on it at 5mgs a day today is day 4.
I was supposed to start at 10mgs but so afraid of side effects I need to start slow.
I'm starting to feel better. This has been a relapse for me.
I was on Prozac for many years and came off for several months but slowly but surely I crashed.
A death in the family and then a tragic death of a friends baby and all the world events and the holidays and so forth .. I crashed.
My anxiety took over. I started taking xanax but I know better than than to get hooked on those.
I hope the lexapro helps I'm just not sure when I should go up to the 10? Any suggestions?

Thanks
Rainee

Your message itself sounds anxious and you seem to be expecting the worst. Try to use your CBT skills. If you've had bad experiences with anti-depressants, go extra slow. Xanax is fine as long as you don't take it all day long more than 3 or 4 times a week. It is a very short acting med and you may notice anxiety more when it wears off in in 3 or 4 hours. Neurontin, which isn't addictive, works pretty well for anxiety and is not addictive. You need to take it 3 times a day. I'm curious why you didn't go back to prozac. It never worked for me but if it worked stay with that--- plus it is the only anti-depressant approved for lots of things and comes as a less expensive generic. Lexapro is very new and not many people have experience with it.

Hi there,
I had stopped prozac because it wasn't working anymore for the depression.
I had been on it for 7 years.
My thoughts have calmed down alot so I can tell the lexapro is starting to work.
Thanks!

A week to ten days seems a good interval before going up to 10mg. Worked for me, otherwise I would have been wanting to crawl under my desk and go to sleep there.

>Rainee,

I started on 10mg, today is my 14th day, I have had very little side effects other than a little nausia and the normal night sweats and head tingles. So far so good for me, even the sex drive is still okay where on the paxil it was gone.

Best wishes,
Kam
