Actually, Zyprexa 5mg increases my motivation. Sometimes during the day my legs feel weak, and I think the Zyprexa causes that. But other than that, no problems.

Here's something you might try. Instead of taking it at bedtime, take it about 5:00pm to 6:00pm. The sedation part of it takes several hours before it kicks in. If you take it at bedtime, that is too late, and too much of the med will still be sedating you the next morning.

If this trick doesn't help, then you may have to consider switching to another med or adding another from a different class. Prozac and Zyprexa happen to go real well together, much better than either alone. Great for depression and bipolar. But if Zyprexa alone is causing too many problems, then you'll have to make a change or addition.

as a bipolar, i always thought the unmotivation was a symptom of finally being "normal"

but the inability to get out of bed really bothers me

i notice that when i first take it at night, it actually makes me feel more motivated ...

so maybe i'll take john's advice and take it much much earlier

When I first started Zyprexa it did make me tired, and still today sometimes I get tired legs. I used to sleep about 10 hours. That was when I was taking Zyprexa at bedtime. Then I experimented with other times to see if tweeking it might make any difference. For me, I find that 5:00pm is just right, because it really doesn't start making me drowsy until about 8:00. And then I sleep a regular 8 hours instead of 10. I think everyone is different though, and that a little experimentation will help find what works best.

I too take 5 mg in the evening. My doc suggested taking it at 6:00 p.m., which I do. I go to bed at 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. I have to get up at 4:15 a.m. for work. I have an extremely difficult time getting out of bed. I sleep 10 to 14 hours on the weekend easily. At first I felt tired all day but so much now. My motivation is much lower though. This is a problem considering I work out 3 or 4 days a week. I have been wondering if this is common for others taking Zyprexa. I have gained weight too even though I watch what I eat and work out. But being biploar I have ALWAYS had a major problem sleeping so I like the Zyprexa for the welcome sleep

I split my dose...5 mg in the morning, 10 mg at night around 1730ish. That seems to work best for me. I sleep about 8-10 hours each night and don't feel too tired during the day. I think the morning dose helps with daytime anxiety, too.

Zyprexa, makes me feel more motivated. If I take 10mg, I feel motivated the next 10 days without having to take anything. But I could understand, how, if you took it every day it might make you feel unmotivated.

Am I to understand that you take the Zyprexa once every ten days? What is the reason you are on Zyprexa? Is it for depression, anxiety, biploar?
