prozac and immigration medical

Posted by janejj on January 3, 2003, at 16:31:26

hello,

Would prozac show up in an immigration medical ? either in urine or blood. Do they test for those kinds of drugs ?

Thanks

How long does prozac stay in blood/urine ?

Are you talking about immigration to the U.S.? If so, the physical I had a couple of years ago was fairly minimal, and the blood tests were primarily for various diseases (HIV, syphilis, hepatitis A & C I think, etc.). The biggest hassle was trying to figure out the exact month and dates I had chickenpox when I was 6 years old so that I wouldn't have to pay $80 for a vaccination.

They asked if I was currently using illegal drugs (I said no, truthfully) , but there was no comprehensive drug screen. They also asked if I suffered from mental illness, and I said yes, serious depression and anxiety, and volunteered that I had taken a variety of ADs etc. (including Prozac). I was on Wellbutrin at the time. The doctor didn't even write any of that down.

There was one written question that was phrased something like "Do you suffer from insanity?" I answered no (I really don't think I'm insane, although I guess that if I am I might not realize it).

I wouldn't worry about it -- if you're on prescribed Prozac, why would they care anyway? I don't know the exact numbers, but I vaguely recall that something like 5 or 10% of the U.S. population is on antidepressants.

Really, don't worry! (By the way, I did get my green card).

This is the end of the thread.
