how do you deal with your children/family when cycling?
Or, when you are on the quest for balance?

hi vagen,

last night i made my 5 kids watch 2 hours of t.v and they were not aloud to say a word?
they were in a different room(floor even)and the sound of there voices were driving me batty.
i sent them to bed early and continued to freak out on hubby because he moved his feet while waching "yes drear"
i really hate myself today.

Thanks for your concern. I have been
reducing 1/3 of my lithium dose on Sundays
for the past 5 weeks or so; many advantages
to that, but last night i hit a point where
maybe the lithium was too low -- insomnia,
agitation, jitteriness, and the dread
"electric eels". So, i took a Xanax, as
my dr. said to do so if i felt bad or
anxious and went to sleep.

OK this a.m. and back to regular scheduling;
I still had diarrhea, though... hmmm after
eating something sweet. I think it may
be a leftover effect of the K withdrawal --
it did something to my brain, including
temperature screw up. I'll skip a lithium
in longer intervals.

But, I am ok. I got to my dr. every year
when i have to renew my drugs.

As a parent with mental illness...

and a homeschooling one at that...my children have grown up with knowing Mom has problems (to say the least). At one point I really tried to hide it from my children, I thought if they saw me this way they would end up like me. I don't want them to turn out like me uh uh no way! Then I realized that I am still their mom, they know I am hurting even if they don't "see" it. I am lucky to have a husband who will "fill in" when I am not able to do my "job". I think that is the only balance I have is him. Even if he is at work he will call and make sure things are going ok. We make it work the best we can and I hope you can find a way to make it work for you.

You are facing quite a challenge Kamakazi-ladybug;
I think you are being very courageous. But if
your children and husband love you, it is so much
easier to face the struggle - it matters little
how "weird" you may act if you have people who
love you. I was just reading a story actually
at Support Coalition International, about this
lady whose husband beat her up and humiliated her
and she was mentally ill - probably got worse if not
got so on account of it. That can be very stressful
on a person with emotional problems. He left her
for his mistress and she collapsed, but i think
she is now much stronger and better.

I am glad your family is understanding; the rest
is up to you to improve your situation with
any resources you have.

take care

Squiggles
