Celexa Poop Out

Posted by JBELL28 on August 13, 2002, at 15:12:18

I have been taking Celexa for 3 years now, and through a series of ups and downs (not bipolar) this summer has been great. Lately within the last week or so, I've been feeling down again. Has anyone ever experienced a "poop out" on Celexa or any other SSRI? I have also been on Klonopin (1.5mg/day) for over a year. It seems maybe a switch in medicine may be appropriate, however I'm hesitant since last time I tried to switch to Prozac I landed in the hospital (April of '00)because I had no medicine in my system during the switch.

I had that happen to me with celexa..I just felt like it was not working...my pdoc switched me to Effexor and that too worked for a "while"..He told me (there IS a medical term for this ..but it escapes me at the moment..)that this happens to some people on SSRI's ..it was first noted in the Lit. years ago starting with Prozac..(is mainly noted to ocur in person's with a DX of BP2)It can be temporary but the med's CAN altogether seem to stop working..without apparent cause from a varieity of factors...depending what is the causal factor in your depression..have you disscussed this with your pdoc yet??

No I haven't, I'm hoping that this will pass with some effort on my part. But it's pretty disheartening right now. I'm afraid I'm addicted to the Klonopin which makes me feel better, but I don't want to take it much longer....I was thinking of suggesting Paxil to my pdoc and slowly tapering the Klonopin.....thanks for helping Nik...any thoughts

Hi..do you mind if I ask why your afraid you might be addicted to the Klonipin..?..I guess i would also have to ask what your definition of addiction is..It was prescribed to you my a MD that thought it would Chemically address your issues..and you say it has helped so why would you want to go off?..many medications have an if you want to call it "addictive" quailty to them as your brain and or body becaomes used to the change in chemisrty.. But some of "us" need this...and i find most people have a socially hyped false perception of what an addiction really is..let me try to put it to you this way..if you needed Chemotherapy or antibiotices to "fix" something physically with your body and would decline without there daily use... would you consider yourself addicted to them?..I'd probably think not..So cut yourself so slack and take what is prescribed to you if you feeel it is helping for without worrying so much...(easier said then ..done..)Good luck...and take care
