What's best for SEX???

Posted by wcfrench on July 13, 2002, at 0:38:56

Ok, somewhere along the lines, this thread had to be posted. We've all searched here and there, and posted here and there, but now is the time to come clean with the info. I'm in my twenties and my sex drive plays a pretty important factor in my life, and even more so for married couples. Let's share info on best and worst medicines for sexual performance.

My experiences:
Effexor - decreases desire initially, but no problem performing
Neurontin - decreased sex drive
Seroquel - zapped sex drive after taking it
Geodon - none
Zyprexa - don't know
Lithium - none/don't know
Klonopin - none/don't know

Hope your posts will help spread the joy and keep the sex vibes rolling out there!

Wellbutrin

Wellbutrin, without a doubt.

Wellbutrin inhibits the reuptake of dopamine, albeit somewhat weakly. Increased dopamine mean decreased prolaction secretion. See
http://arbl.cvmbs.colostate.edu/hbooks/pathphys/endocrine/hypopit/prolactin.html

There are lots of reports of people having their libido increased on Wellbutrin.

tabitha, I read an interview with Hugh Hefner in Esquire and they asked him what ____ should no woman be without? He mentioned the Hitachi Wand.
Sounded so good, I wanted a sex change. HHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Isn't low-dose selegiline a better and safer way to increase dopamine and sex drive? ...and it increases PEA too!

Prozac gives you a great hard on, but if you are female, I would suggest that you find a bloke on Prozac!

Bah! What does Hugh Hefner know about women?

Anyway, you have to stay male, Phil, so there will be at least a few really cool members of that gender.

(Hmm, maybe I shouldn't be using the word "member" in this particular thread?)

Prozac an aphrodisiac?

Posted by tabitha on July 14, 2002, at 2:34:52

Are you kidding? I thought prozac was the one that causes the most sexual dysfunction. Sure did for me. Also totally erased interest, which was kind of interesting in itself. You know how you run across a really attractive person, and can't help reacting? On prozac, that effect totally went away. That attractive flesh might has well have been a houseplant, or oatmeal, or whatever is the least sexy substance you can imagine.

Just to actually answer the topic, my experience is...

Prozac -- totally erased sex drive, diminshed function.
Serzone -- same effect but not quite as severe (also doesn't work as well)
Effexor, Celexa, --same story, not quite as bad as prozac.
Wellbutrin, Remeron -- couldn't tolerate the other side effects long enough to find out.

All I'm seeing is a choice between a stable mood and life as a sexual being, and I don't like it one bit!

Some people do better on Prozac but it kills sex drive for a very high % of people, including me.
With Celexa, I have desire but any completion is a gift. I am really getting tired of this SE. Have a pdoc appt Monday which won't result in any miracles.
I also take Viagra and the insurance mob only doles out 8 a month. I called them, BCBS, and asked what genius came up with that arbitrary number? The same companies taking away our sex drive also tell us how much sex we can try to have. The Viagra helps but is no guarantee.
I hope the drug cartel can come up with a solution to this.

PROZAC: no libido, complete inability to orgasm -- sex basically ceased to be a part of my life. Horrible, though at the time I had no libido so I didn't really care.

REMERON: no effect on libido or orgasm

EFFEXOR: slightly enhanced libido, complete inability to orgasm as on prozac

REBOXETINE/Edronax: substantially increased libido, no effect on orgasmic ability

TIANEPTINE: no effect on anything

WELLBUTRIN: (well, I've only been on it for 5 days but...) no effect or possibly very slightly diminished libido, orgasm quite noticeably more easily and quickly, orgasms are also qualitatively different (a little more intense, and also, most intense pleasure comes BEFORE the actual orgasm...weird but not bothersome)

BENZOS: diminished libido, takes much longer to orgasm

OPIATES: somewhat increased libido, takes longer to orgasm
