Combining 'alternative' and conventional meds..??

Posted by jay on June 27, 2002, at 20:57:17

Just curious...I thought I would start a thread on what and how people are combining alt meds like herbs and any suppliments with conventional medication.

Now, I know some of it can be dangerous...but there is plenty of combos that aren't. (Even though we should really have a doc trained in both of these fields, it's hard to find one most of us could afford.)

I am trying a small dose of both Red Ginseng and DHEA for awhile to see if it will bring back my sex drive. (And maybe lose some weight.) I am also currently on Zoloft, Nortriptyline, and Zyprexa. I am positive my hormones are all out of whack, so I will see if the herb and suppliment help.

Anyhow..please share your experiences! Thanx..

Jay

I will use Kava Kava in the powdered form once in awhile for anxiety. Seems to take the edge off. I also use White Willow Bark capsules for headaches and Arnica Montana in the pill and gel form for sore muscles/bruises/etc. I also use alot of aromatherapy, especially peppermint for migraine headaches. I also use a liquid form of vitamins and minerals, really gets your energy up in the morning.

I would be very reluctant to combine any meds whatsoever, even herbal meds. If you want to know why, read my story about combining Effexor and Remeron, which is 7 threads up this page.

This is the end of the thread.
