still tired, tried Provigil, it stopped working

Posted by vicky on May 24, 2002, at 14:16:36

I am on Wellbutrin, Prozac, perphenanzine, and
buspar. The wellbutrin was prescribed as provigil stopped working.
I am still taking 2-3 hour naps during the day,
and sleeping about 10 hours a nite. anyone know of any other meds that
I could take with the four mentioned, to give me
some energy. Also anyone know what
schizotypial personality is?

Mianserin (Tolvon) solved my hypersomnia and daytime sleepiness problems. It is structuraly similar to mirtazapine (Remeron), it doesn't have the serotonergic effect mirtazapine has, but it has more noreadrenergic effect and sedative property (good for promoting sleep too). A low dose ( 30 mg taken one hour before bedtime) had been a life saver for me.
You can give Remeron a try if you can not find mianserin.

Hi Vicky,

A good place to find descriptions for disorders is at http://www.mentalhealth.com/fr20.html
You might want to talk with your doctor about the possibility that some of the meds you are currently taking might be aggravating the problem. Perphenazine (a conventional antipsychotic) might be a problem (you might ask about a relatively non-sedating atypical antipsychotic instead-i.e. Risperdal). Also, some people complain of Prozac induced lethargy and tiredness as well.

Risperdol seems like a good idea to try. I do
know I need a antipscyhotic, and perphenazine
is an old one.(and seems to be very sedating)
Scared to stop the prozac thou, but wonder if the wellbutrin will
suffice... Thanks for the tip!
