What is the recommended doseage of zyprexa used in bipolar disorder? I can only take 2.5 mg because of the side effects(parkinsonism) I also take 20 mg of celexa once a day.

Hi:
Well, the dose seems to be the one that helps, and it may be good as any to start at 2.5mg's. There is no rule that says it won't work, and may even be the reason that they made the 2.5mg pill, as it may be the most optimal for some. Best wishes...

Funny you ask, because I have the same question. I am taking it for what my doc and I think is BP. I took 1.25mg two nights ago, woke up like a zombie, super dry mouth, but decreased anxiety. Maybe a few good times of the day depression-wise also. I took the same amount last night and it seems that my body has already learned to kick this stuff out pretty well because all the side eefects are better (barely even tired also), but the anxiety seems to be with me more again. Keep me posted on your doing results

Yes, a low dose of Zyprexa is often enough for bipolar II. (People who have psychotic disorders, like schizophrenia or bipolar I, tend to need higher doses.)
If you have problems with pseudoparkinsonsism, you might try a different medication, like Seroquel, Risperdal, or Geodon. There are also other things you can add to treat the movement disorder. This is all assuming that the antipsychotic is helping you. If this group of medications doesn't seem to be right for you or is only partially helpful, there are also a lot of mood stabilizers (mostly anticonvulsants) that work for bipolar II.
