Posted by HLecter on March 27, 2002, at 8:16:24

Hi,
I'm on effexor XR 75 since last week.
My doc prescribed me to increase dosage to 150 mg than to 225 mg.
How long must i wait for increase the dosage and switch to 150 mg capsule?
7 days, 1 month, 3 centuries?
Thanks for your help!
Bye

First, love your screen name...

Second, did your pdoc give you no guidelines? I would say you should judge by how you feel. If you've been on 75 for a week, you can probably go up to 150 now. The last time I took effexor, my pdoc pushed me up to 225 fast. I was on 75 for three days, 150 for three days and then 225. But I didn't tolerate it well - it made me very shaky(even though I had taken it for a year before and tolerated it fine).

However, do you even know if you'll need to be pushed up to 225? How are you feeling on 75? You need to give most ADs at least 2 weeks after first starting them to really see if you'll need to raise the dosage.

I recommend that you get more details from your pdoc...

Hi penny, can you hear the lambs crying? (hehehe)

So, here we are,
my pdoc switched me from other ssri (paxil, zoloft,...) cause they gave me heavy side effects (dizzy, drowsy...) to Effexor.
He said that on Effexor i probably shouldn't have those side effects.
He said that the rate of incresing dosage, should be tested by me: if in few days or a week, i felt no side effects or side effects faded, i could go up to 150 mg/d, and so on till 225 mg.
Actually i feel no disease (first days a little somnolence after taken cap) but, of course, still no antidepressant effect.
My pdoc said, at the end, that Effexor, to be effective, must be taken up to 225 mg/d.
What's your experience (right effects, side effects,.....)?
How do you divide your dosage in the day? (for ex: 75 in the morning, 150 at evening....).
Let me know something about.
Thanks and .... greetings from Italy
Bye

I would think that would depend upon the person. I started feeling an antidepressant effect at 150, but my pdoc raised the dose b/c I was still experiencing depression associated with PMS. 225 really leveled me out. Flattened is a better term...

Didn't really have any side effects from the Effexor until I went off of it the first time around. I switched directly from Celexa to Effexor the first time. Was off Effexor for 6 months and had another major depressive episode, so my pdoc started me back on (75 - 3 days, 150 - 3 days, 225). That time around I had terrible nervousness, mild tremor, nausea, irritability. And had NO antidepressant effect after about 2 weeks. I was severely suicidal, so switched to Paxil (which didn't work either, but that's another story).

I didn't. I was taking XR, so I just took 225 in the morning.

Thanks Penny for your helpful information.
I'm very sensitive, so i think i'll be on 75 mg/d for another one or two weeks.
I will let you know something about my effexor trial in the future days...and i hope to not have side effect.

Mmmm, no i haven't read the book, i've only watch the film (i know it it's not the same thing!).
