Lil80, has your thyroid been tested? I assume you've been to an internist or GP for a full checkup and bloodwork?

Hi Lili80,

I take it that your doctor has checked you
for thyroid dysfunction; assuming that is done,
i have heard that lithium is used for increasing
weight gain, though what dose I am not sure.

Is it possible you are suffering from anxiety
or depression and your activity exceeds the calorie
intake;

Deja Vu! Okay I've been there, a little younger then you were, but similiar experience. What concerns me is your idea that "real" food will make you lose weight. Calories are calories! Real food just has the added benefit of nutrients.

How tall are you? I'm 5'5" and was down less then 90lbs. A dietician helped me with "gain weight" plan; I just needed to add a few slices of bread and ice-cream. Do you have access to a dietician?

ps bananas are sweet, and 4 a day are sure to pack a pound on, slice them and eat with some vanilla ice-cream, yum!!

I eat three meals a day, mostly chicken steak and whatever i can fix up quick. I am sick of going to doc ap[pts so i have refused to add a dietician. I am sick of eating ice cream, chocolate, and cookies, but when i only eat real food i still dont gain anything, i think my meds are screwing me up. i take effexor, tetracyclin, neurontin, and soon i will take zoloft too. My mother keeps adding unnormal amounts of butter to everytrhing she cooks for me, my dad bought me alot of candy bars, i tried junk food but i cant take it anymore, and i am sick of burger king. My doc did all the tests on me and she cant find anything wrong with me, and everyone thinks i am anorexic but i am not. i hate this i look like a skeleton, people mistake me for a 12 year old.

LiLi, why not increase your complex carbohydrate foods instead of all the fatty foods that are being recommended? Not everyone likes porridge (though I sure do still) but a big bowl of porridge made with milk instead of water & a mashed ripe banana & brown sugar is delicious (& quick to make). Eat more whole-grained breads, rolls, pita bread, or rotis (chapatis) with your meals or just snack on them in between. Have a small sandwich or starchy snack (but healthy) before you go to bed with a small glass of milk. It'll help you sleep better & tend to make you wake up hungry in the morning. Just a small amount or else you'll feel too uncomfortably full to sleep well.

Nibble on nuts through the day or include them as spreads on bread. They're high calorie & healthy. If you like macaroni & cheese (NOT Kraft's!!), that's pretty healthy & high calorie. There's many starchy foods that are healthy & high in calories.

Have you tried any of these foods regularly in your diet?
