Effexor + what anti-psychotic?

Posted by jay on October 6, 2001, at 3:57:11

Just curious, has anybody had success with Effexor XR + either Risperdal or Seroquel? I have heard Zyprexa works, but curious of the other two.

Thanx...

Hi Jay.

I guess any of the atypical neuroleptics have the potential to help, but I would put Seroquel at the bottom of the list.

I would arrange these drugs in order of their antidepressant potential as:

Geodon > Zyprexa > Risperdal > Seroquel

Clozaril is probably somewhere between Zyprexa and Risperdal, but its liabilities to produce agranulocytosis and weight gain makes it an undesirable choice.

I recommend Amisulpride if you can get it. Amisulpride is the only antipsychotic studied specifically for dysthymia and other depressive states.
