In January, my BP was 150/80. I began taking Adrafinil (which supposedly does not affect blood pressure) in July as an augment to my zoloft. I just had my BP take again and it's 170 over. My cardiologist wants me to take Altace (ramipril) 5mg.daily. I also got a prescription for prozac instead of zoloft. Any known probs. with ACE inhibitors and anti-D's? Should there be any problem continuing with the Adrafinil? I am taking low-dose zoloft...25mg daily, can i start right away on the prozac (10mg. now, working up to 20mg daily) or is there a washout period for the zoloft?
I have excercise-induced Vent. Tachycardia accompanied with Tri-gemini PVC's (though physically, i feel pretty good...just a mess mentally.) Any thoughts? Any thoughts on Altace in general?
Thanks in advance for your help....john

Zoloft and Effexor were the only two serotonergic antidepressants that clearly increased my blood pressure. I wouldn't be hesitant to switch to Prozac. Zoloft has a half-life of its longest metabolite of about 2-3 days. I couldn't help you with ACE inhibitors, etc. Your cardiologist (cognizant of *all* your meds), seems to giving you good advice.

Thanks Mitch...interesting that the two anti'D's I've been on when getting the BP tests were....Effexor, and later, Zoloft. Hmmm

Josh-did you bring enough gum for EVERYBODY?

Josh-
Was interested in your question because I also have hypertension and was considering Adrafinil, which is supposed to raise dopamine levels. Dopamine is injected as a life-saving procedure to raise blood pressure. However, the doctor told me that dopamine levels in the brain and dopamine in the body have different functions, and he was correct. Adrafinil did not raise my blood pressure. Incidentally, ACE-inhibitors have controlled my BP much better than calcium blockers.
Bring on the salt-
Gracie
