Mianserin vs. Mirtazapine

Is there any reason why mianserin would work for somebody after mirtazapine didn't?

I think there is a possibility it could. I have used both. Despite being structurally very similar, they affected me quite differently.

Mianserin was more stimulating than Mirtazapine, sort of what I felt with TCAs only with less side effects. Mirtazapine made me more relaxed and "fuzzy"; definitely not as mentally sharp as when on Mianserin, but more calm. (Apparently Mianserin effects NE more than Mirtazapine)

Despite its stimulation, Mianserin was actually *more* sedating initially than Mirtazapine, but this went away after a couple of weeks.
My overall feeling is that if you respond better to TCAs you will prefer Mianserin and if SSRIs you will prefer Mirtazapine.

Hope this helps.
