Klonopin Stevie Nicks

Did People see that interview with Stevie Nicks where she said she was addicted to Klonopin for many years and it almost destroyed her life? What do people think of that? can that happen on that drug? Is it that addictive?

I didn't see the interview but knew she had had a problem with Klonopin. But, this is coming from a lady who went thru a million bucks over 20 years snorting cocaine. I'm just guessing but I'd say she was just another addiction waiting to happen.
I like Stevie Nicks but in her world, addiction is a prerequisite. I know regular folks have drug problems too but in the music biz, it's a practically a job requirement.
I've played in a lot of bands over the last 20 years, not Fleetwood Mac, but every musician I've ever played with had serious drug and alcohol problems or was in recovery. Recovery meant they did their coke in privacy.

Sorry for the ramble,
Phil

It may have more to do with its *effectiveness* rather than its *addictiveness*. Former cocaine abusers often drank or used anti-anxiety meds to take the edge off their highs (ask Dennis Hopper). The Klonopin may simply have allowed her to *continue* using cocaine a lot longer than she would have been able to tolerate.

She said that for her the klonopin was harder to kick than the cocaine.

I love her voice and song writing.

My husband has what he calls an addictive personality. Anything tempting he won't try the even a first time. So perhaps for others with addictive personalities this medication wouldn't be a good choice.

For myself after listening to her I wouldn't try it unless I had hit a rock bottom.

Well by all means if Stevie Nicks says its so then everyone on klonopin should run to the pdocs and get different drugs......not.....I think I will listen to my pdoc first ahead of Stevie Nicks, I think I might take into consideration all the success people on this board and others have had using klonopin to combat panics, I think I might take my chances using klonopin rather than opting for chemical castration on an ssri, I think that I will dilgently research the safety and efficacy of benzo use even for recovering alcoholics like myself and by the way I was a coke head too and I have never abused my xanax in 3 years of use and it has literally saved my life......I pray to God you don't hit rock bottom with panic disorder like I did but thank God I wouldn't let some media hyped interview with a worn out rock legend influence my ability to get help from the proper meds.

i'm on prozac and klonopin and don't give a shit if they're addictive or not...

they've improved my life tenfold

pros outweigh cons

klonopin isn't fatal

COCA-COLA IS ADDICTIVE! IT REALLY IS! COFFEE IS, TOO! DORITOS!!! shit, would you rather deal with crippling, overwhelming life-threatening anxiety or klonopin "addiction"? klonopin has restored the quality of my life in a way i can't describe. i feel somewhat OKAY now. i can LAUGH. i don't feel DEAD.

if that makes me a klonopin addict, then put me on some sort of pro-addiction list.

i don't take it to come off coke, and i don't abuse it. i take it as prescribed.

maybe that is the stevie nicks differential.

(i did not see the interview.)

I've been on Klonopin 2-3 years and have never considered going above 3mg a day.
I take 2mg right now. It has been a very effective drug for me.

Good for you! I'm tired of everyone saying I'm addicted to
medication that is saving my life (saving the part worth having
anyway). I'm also addicted to air, food, water, etc. - if I try to
quit any of those I get terrible side effects and can't break the
addiction. I think anyone can get addicted if they want to (it may
be a "want" they can't control), but it doesn't mean the rest of
us are drug seeking addicts, and I get tired when people try to
imply that we are.

Having been on Klonopin off and on for several months now, and speaking as someone who DID have serious problems with other benzodiazepines years ago ... I think for a drug to be addictive, in the commonly used sense, there has to be some kick. The first time I took Librium, I was walking on air. In my experience, Klonopin just isn't that much fun. Most of what I've read here and elsewhere indicates that its addiction potential is relatively low.

That doesn't mean that I couldn't become tolerant to it and dependent on it though. If I took a high dose for a long period and then suddenly stopped, I'd get withdrawal symptoms, as any of us would with almost all the meds we discuss on this board. Benzo's are known for a long withdrawal period.

Most of the definitions of addiction these days include damage (to yourself or others) as a necessary factor. In other words, if anything is screwing up your life and you can't stop, you're addicted. If it's making your life better and not causing any other damage, then I personally would not call that addicted.

I saw the interview, and was concerned as well about Klonapin. But I got the idea that Stevie Nicks took a very high dose for 8 years. That could explain some of her withdrawal anguish.

Klonopin, and for that matter, most benzo's, are not usually prescribed to people with addictive personalities, according to my doc. If the people suffer from anxiety they get MOAI or some other form of relief.

Klonopin is a real life style saver for those of us who can use it. I'm certainly better of with it than I was without it.

i realize there has not been a post on this subject in almost 2 years but i wanted to share what stevie said in another interview about klonopin. stevie said in an interview that before she went into rehab she was up to 18 blue klonopin a day.(arent the blue ones 2mg's?)so that means she was taking 36 mgs. a day. her ex and guitar player for fleetwood mac said at this point she was" nothing more than a mumbling zombie". at this dosage wouldnt you be a mumbling zombie also? jsut wanted to share this with you as the dosage she was taking seems extremely high.

stevie nicks was also a cocaine addict, so the fact that she got addicted to Klonopin doesn't surprise me. I believe she took a VERY high dose for 8 years...the 2mg Klonopin are white, but maybe years ago they were blue, who knows...36mgs! my god, Shouldn't the Dr. prescribing that amount of pills be held accountable for something?..that's 540 pills a month

Taking into consideration all the benzos I used to take, I know I've taken way, way more than this. When I used to buy them off the streets, I was easily taking 120mg of Xanax daily for quite some time, quite often supplementing it with a couple thousand milligrams of Valium when I couldn't find my precious "Z-bars" any where on the street or when I was partying... or 40-50mg of Rohypnol if that was available, and being in Texas, it invariably is. On the weekends I would often have some "Texas tea" -- pulverized Vicodin HP (acetaminophen extracted) to equal out to 50-100mg hydrocodone, and Soma (2.1 grams) stirred into liquid (alcoholic usually) and taken with my benzos. ....Anyway, Xanax is considered to be half as potent as clonazepam, so that would basically come out to 60mg clonazepam per day if you want to look at it that way. I never encountered Klonopin until I was in a psychiatric setting, but I did abuse it at first, thanks in part to prescriptions each month for 16-20mg daily from four different psychiatrists, the "small" doses of Xanax, Ativan, and ProSom I was getting from my GP (4-8mg, 18mg, and 6mg, respectively), and the bottles of Halcion and Librium my aunt up north would occasionally send me. Of course I had a little pharmacy far out of city limits (well, in the sticks basically) where I would get the scripts filled, no questions asked.

There was even one point my psychiatrist tried something quite radical which ended up working very well in some ways (no anxiety, EVER!) but not so well in others (lethargy between doses). He had me on four different benzodiazepines concomitantly, and while I can't remember the doses of each specifically, I do recall that they were Xanax, Valium, Ativan, and Klonopin. I didn't take all of them every day, though I forget which one (or two) of them was the one I took only as-needed. The Klonopin I was to take at a relatively normal dose throughout most of the week, but every *other* Sunday (?) I was to take a single dose of about 30mg. I suppose he was figuring the long half life would keep my plasma levels high... if we had employed this tactic *every* Sunday (or used Tranxene or Valium instead on these days), it just might have worked. Sounds crazy, I know... I posted about this sometime late last year I believe. My psychiatrist was only willing to do this after I had undergone some pretty extensive in-patient tests to determine my sedative tolerance (though they used pentobarbital and phenobarbital to determine this if I recall correctly... I also posted a detailed post on this quite a while back).

Anyway, guess my point is I wasn't at all a "mumbling zombie" on this high of a dose, though I realize that the vast majority of people would be. In fact I was much more functional at that time in my life than I have been since. Chalk it up to a very high natural tolerance -- I still require a bare minimum of 12mg clonazepam daily to stay afloat. Not endorsing abuse/misuse of benzos of course... just wanted to offer my experience.

How is it that I'm still alive? lol

ok, so it,s many years later and I find the post as I've been watching Stevie Nicks Vids on YOUTUBE, after 86, she started plumping up, before, coke clues were here and there.
ALL BENZOS have a rough/tough withdrawal. I have a medical book on Benzo addiction and there are no easy ways to stop. I say, if they work for you, take em for the rest of your life, if they don't work, tapper slowly and do it with a DR. I've had to go to the ER 2 times because I was out of ATIVAN - the anxiety that comes with withdrawal is 10 times worse than the original anxiety I got the RX for!!! Rough/tough and HELL in a Handbasket is how I felt. I hope all goes well for everyone and that Stevie Nicks sings again. Thanks! Bzark1
