Hey rm! I am not sure that I am the Cletus you are trying to get a hold of because I believe I have seen other people using the "Cletus" alias in the past besides myself. I would be happy to answer any questions if they are applicable to what I am taking. Just a little background, I was diagnosed with OCD about a year ago and recently was diagnosed with ADHD.....I am currently taking 100mg of Celexa a day and am trying the various stimulants for the ADHD. If I am the right Cletus, I will be happy to help. Good luck!

Oh yes, you are the one, thanks for answering. Surfing the net I found your answer to a guy that was concerned about hair loss and depression. When you described your problem I was reborn just to find out that I am not alone because you were describing exactly the problem that I have. You know,I was thinking I am paranoid because I was telling to myself the hairloss is because of tremendous stress I was going through year after year after year...Same as you, during "no stress" periods I could see my hair regrowing, but then again some event would stress me up and the hair would start to thin, thus creating vicious circle - the more thinning the more stress and the more stress the more hair loss. This is something that I would like to talk to you, your experiences before and after the change, anxiety (that I also have), and that's why I was asking your address. Still today I am convinced that it is all caused by stress and after visiting a doctor I was given benzodiazepin Ansilan (medazepam), very low doses 5 mg and after 1 month 10 mg to treat my anxiety. Immediately, I felt much better and now after 1 1/2 months of treatment my anxiety has reduced and I noticed certain regrowth of hair. The problem is that I am unpatient and stressing myself wanting everything to come back to normal very fast. I know you have been on completely different drug (Celexa) but could you please tell me your experience with the regrowth and drug impact, how long it took to notice significant difference, how is your situation today, etc.

Again thanks for reply and reading this letter.

...same here as well, have been noticing lately while going through a particularly rough period, hair loss that has been abnormal... Its also diet I think, I have been eating horribly, and I've gotten very thin... so I think that this plays a part in it as well... I'm hoping that as the meds kick in, and I can go day to day without having anxiety or a major depressive episode, when I can sleep all through the night, that I will again start to see some improvements and get back to my normal thickness of hair...

Yes, I lost weight too before hair loss started but that was because of depresssion and stress. A year after, I started taking zink, selen and other minerals and my hair improved dramatically but again some things happened and my stressing episodes kept my hair thin but only at the certain level on the top. What amazes me is that when I felt ok just couple of days I could see improvments and small hair regrowing. The problem was that I never had more than a week without stress.

What meds are you on?

Try not to think about hair loss too much because once you start going to the toilette every 10 minutes to check your hair (as I did) that means you are in a vicious circle, stressing yourself even more.

Right now I'm taking a combination of effexor in the day, and geodon at night, lately w/ xanax to combat some of the fxr side effects. The mirror, yeah, that was me... last night I kept thinking, dont keep checking... It's better just to think about it less...

My pdoc also put me on a regimen of vitamins and protein supplements to help get my weight back up, so after less than a week I'm finally able to dose in the morning and not feel totaly spaced out by 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon, as was the case b4 when i really was unable to eat, (on the fxr i couln't tell if i was hungry or sick or full...) plus the xanax helped...

your mind is pretty powerfull when it comes to your health, hair loss included, the more you stress, the more you get sick...

agree, but i am telling you it is possible to come back to normal again, it's just important not to think about it. To get that "I don't care" feeling and ignore the whole thing is important (this is easier said than done but from my experience everything else will bring you just more pain and worry). Also, make sure to take Vit+mineral supplements for skin, hair and nails. Those contain some important minerals like zink, selenium, iron, inositol, B vitamins etc.
And keep me informed if you checked your hair today, I'm just curious.

I wonder what happened to Cletus, I was expecting some info from him because he's the guy who got his hair back with Celexa, and I am pretty sure we are suffering from the similar problem.
Hopefully, he's still reading this.

Hey guys, sorry for the late response but I have been out of town for a bit.....well, everything is continuing to go relatively well and my hair is still looking a ton better than a year ago....I totally agree that you have to just stop the cycle of obsessive thoughts because that will just continue to aggrevate the problem. Back before I was put on medicine which helps relax my mind, I would also be going to the bathroom every ten minutes to check on my hair and worry about it. Now, I hardly ever think about it and it continues to look great....Now, dont get me wrong, I still get days where I worry a little (which I think is relaitvely normal) but I dont let myself get caught in the cycle. I have read a lot of literature on the effects of continued long term emotional stress on the physical body and the hair loss/thinning symptom is rather common.....if you treat the stress, everything else will fall back into place.......I do take Vitamins now to ensure proper mineral intake (zinc, selenium, Vitamin Bs, etc) which also helps put my mind at ease. I will be happy to answer any specific questions you might have........I'll try and get back to you as soon as I can! Good luck!

Nice to see you back, Cletus. Now, as I said, I am on mild benzodiazepines for 7th week now, on low dose and my stress has greatly reduced and also I can see that my hair is regrowing slowly. 2 weeks ago I was still checking the hair like an idiot being unable to see the difference, one day it appeared it was getting better and the other I thought it's all the same and I must try something more powerfull, like Prozac or just take larger dose of benzos. Now it seems to me (really!) that there has been some regrowth and the more calm I am the less I think about it. Hopefully, with time it will get better and better.

Cletus, you said "..before I was put on medicine which helps relax my mind..." was that Celexa? Did you start with it immediately or were you on something else before that?
Also how long did it take for you to see the real difference, I mean, when could you say now I see that my hair is thicker than before?

thanks for sharing this with us.
