neurontin derogatory?

Posted by Ric on May 23, 2001, at 7:39:30

My situation
After 6 years the combo of lamictal and klonopin
has given me a 30% improvement with my bipolar 2 -
well the last few months as I have added in neurontin
things have gone to shit
it could also be because my lamictal dosage has increased
up to 400 mg - the klonopin has varied because if I
get to high I get depressed so the average intake is
about 3-4 mg and I think this counteracts the lamictal
which causes a mild manic stage and the ensuing anxiety
any opinions?
Thanx
Ric

Sorry no real experience with your situation. I take Neurontin to good effect, but people vary and drug combos create their own unique cocktail. 30% relief sounds awful. Do you have a good pdoc?

I took neurontin for awhile. Really felt happy on it but couldn't remember my name half the time. Would walk into rooms and wonder what I went there for!!

Lose the neurontin if it doesn't work. Get rid of the klonipin too. Benzodiazepines are not good for you long term. Benzos put you on a roller coaster. They are good for the moment but I feel they cause rebound. You grow tolerant to them and then dependent.

Have you ever tried adding Pindolol (aka Visken)? It is a beta blocker which is good for anxiety. It is also a strong augmentation med for some people. It has been very helpful for me. It is pretty fast acting so you don't have to wait six weeks or more to evaluate it.

Does that dose of Lamictal have any negative physical side effects for you? I have been thinking of increasing my dose.
