Posted by femenist on May 23, 2001, at 11:14:27

Does anyone know if Wellbutrin is dangerous if your trying to have a baby? Has anyone one pregnant while on Wellbutrin or WB/Prozac? Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated....I'm trying to get info on this and I can't find it!

I've seen papers saying prozac isn't contradicted in pregancy, I think wellbutrin is a little too new. I am pregnant now (bipolar, panic, etc). I am on klonopin because I can't go w/o it- the panic attacks I experience are worse for my baby then any possible complication of a benzo (and studies all contradict each other there). I recently had to take an AP, but they are safe (compazine is often given for nausea). Just make sure your ob/gyn and shrink are on the same page; during my other pregnancies I've actually felt quite well by the second trimester (maybe the increased progesterone- my pdoc calls it a natural occcuring barbituate). I wish you all the best- judy

Hi, I took Prozac during both of my pregnancies and all was fine; with both, I had tried going without the Prozac, but that only lasted a month...I had to have it. With my first I was on 20mg of Prozac and my second 40mg. Wellbutrin I don't know about with pregnancy, but Prozac is pretty safe, I even nursed while on Prozac, Depakote and WELLBUTRIN. The peadiatrician said it should be fine-if I have to take it, I have to take it. Good luck

Thanks for responding! Did you guys go through 9 months with no problems? That's fantastic! Prozac & WB are both a class B drug, does that mean anything? Did they babies have any symptoms when they were born?

Hello ...
I have heard Prozac is safe for pregnancy ... however, I would try and go off of the Wellbutrin if you can. I had a miscarriage while on a combo of Zoloft and Wellbutrin (and I stopped taking them both within the first month of pregnancy) Most doctors say the medication didn't cause the miscarriage, but my wonderful psychiatrist (who has since retired, sniff sniff) was suspicious.

The next time I thought about getting pregnant again, she recommended I get off all meds for a month or two before even trying. I did that, and now have a healthy baby girl.

Still, I have heard many positive reports about Prozac and pregnancy, and breastfeeding.

Greetings! This is great news for me since I
am a Prozac "Lifer" and am thinking about having
baby #2 and want to stay on it this time. I
quit taking it during the first pregnancy, because
I wanted to do all the "right things", but I drove
my husband and myself nuts the whole 9 months (and he's a very mellow and awesome guy). Have you noticed any side effects since your baby has gotten older as far as motor and learning skills and development? Thanks much!
Loraine-
