ADDERALL AND ZOLOFT TAKEN TOGETHER ANYONE?

Posted by Mike Rubinsek on May 23, 2001, at 6:05:41

Has anyone out there ever taken these two together? I'm taking 100mg of Zoloft and 40 mg of Adderall (2x/day). Any unusual side effects? Did they both do their jobs? I ask because I just added the Aderall this morning, and here it is 4:01am and I am not even close to being tired. Is this insomnia temporary?I would appreciate anyone taking the time to share your experiences!

Hey Mike, Did you have the insomnia BEFORE you started taking the Adderall? For what its worth, I had MUCH WORSE insomnia from SSRI meds-especially Zoloft than from stims. Just an idea-maybe your doc could back off the Zoloft some-if that is what is causing it. You will have to take the Adderall for a week maybe two to see if the insomnia will resolve-that is if THAT is what is causing it. Wow those doses would be *thermonuclear* for me (Adderall or Zoloft)!

Mike,

Sorry for the quick 2nd post, but I just checked the monograph for Adderall and for ADD they indicate 40mg as a max. dose. 60mg max for narcolepsy. You said you were taking 20mg 2xdaily? Call up your pdoc and tell him you can't sleep and ask if you can just take 20mg in the morning only for awhile, jeez I never heard of any doc starting somebody out on a max dose before.

Boy Mitch, you really did your homework. I have to go back to work now, but I'd love to hear more about what you found out. I am definitely on too high of a dose. Yesterday was the first day, and I was up ALL night. So how am I getting through the day today (one filled with lots of meetings of course) meetings)you guessed it...popped two and dam that shit wakes you up! My pupils are dilated, hope no one notices! By the way I had no insomnia before (only taking 50mg of Zoloft, but now he gave me 100mg) That may be something to look in to.

I took 40mg Adderall today (my normal dose), was sort of tired in the afternoon, and promptly fell into a nap... and this is on top of 400mg Wellbutrin SR..

Hey Ash, you actually got tired in the afternoon taking 40 of adderall? Wow! I just started yesterday on 40 mg and I was so wired today...A nap was the furthest thing from my mind. How long have you been taking that dose? Maybe it's a tolerance thing with you and it just doesn't stimulate your nervous system like it first did?

Are you taking your zoloft before bed? Because if you aren't maybe you should try that or vice versa. That zoloft used to make me pass out. Not only that but it made me very uncomfortable 4 or 5 hours after taking it and then after an hour everything was fine--that was part of the reason to take it at night. Just thought I'd let you know about that anxiety part. Whenever I couldn't sleep I could take microscopic amounts of melatonin and I'd be out.

And that wellbutrin + adderall story is funny because I once tried the combo and I too would feel incredibly tired & sleepy in the afternoon. Then at night I would wake up for some damn reason! I thought it was me but I guess not. For some reason the WB made me want to sleep somethin' feirce.

Hi there, hope it's ok if I jump in here ..
I take 100mg of zoloft and 15mg of Adderal per day for depression and ADD. About that sleepiness ... when I started the stim meds for ADD I began with the lowest dose of concerta, and I can only say that I've never been more tired in my LIFE! Falling asleep at my desk, sneaking home at lunch hour just to take a nap, etc. Doc attributed this to overdosage, which apparently happens with stim meds.

Definitely try going back down the scale on the adderal, and then working your way up; sounds like the sleepiness is overdose.

Funny, zoloft does the same number on MY pupils (no pun intended): I'm a teacher and my students wanted to know if I was high! < g > If I take the zoloft too late in the day, it keeps me up, so maybe that's your culprit.

Keep fiddlin' with it, you'll get your own personal combo platter figured out eventually ;)

Helen
