In an SSRI world, I remain a great believer in MAOIs. If I were you, I'd ask about a trial of Nardil and maybe at some point add lamictal to it. That's been my best combination so far. I have depression + anxiety + some impulsivity -mood swings, I think. I still take nardil although it has lost a lot of its benefit finally for me (but after 15 years) and lamictal picked it up again but I gained too much weight on lamictal for me to handle. Incidently, I gained no weight from Nardil--although many people do, and most people do not gain weight on lamictal. Seligeline (?sorry can't remember how to spell it) was highly recommended to me recently--also an MAOI. I think Parnate (another MAOI) has less of the potential of gaining weight (if that is a concern of yours), but it doesn't have the same anti-anxiety effect.

I'm not much of a med expert, just have tried too many, but if anything I said was wrong, I'm sure someone will come along and correct.

Perhaps you can try Wellbutrin + mood stabilizer, which is good for mood swings: http://www.dr-bob.org/tips/split/Possible-indications-of-bi.html

*chuckle* Somehow I get the idea that Sal likes Wellbutrin almost as much as me. :)

Yah, Wellbutrin. Cuz you sound much like me.
I'm really starting to think that anyone who doesn't respond to SSRIs should try Wellbutrin.
