Wellbutrin success stories?

Posted by Glenn on February 13, 2000, at 20:31:29

Just started taking Wellbutrin SR today. Just wondering what I should expect and if it really helped anybody here.

Thanks

Glenn,

I'm going to tell you my personal experience with Wellbutrin (starting dose 150 mg 2x/day) was not all that great. This could have been due to the fact that I experienced double-vision, "acute" amnesia, loss of appetite, little shaky at times, and an all around sense of total (and embarrassing) confusion. The fore mentioned side effects could of course resulted from the "un-godly-for-me" high initial dosage. So, no, I do not have a success story for you today, but then again everyone is different, and handled differently. I have however heard of many positive experiences with this drug. Hope you hear of some of them.
Peace,
Brandon

So far the side effects have been tough. Extreme anxiety, edginess, and feeling a little paranoid. I hope these will subside in time, because I know that I wont be able to stand it for very long. I interact with a lot of different people at my job and I dont like feeling so weird around them.
Thanks for the posting Brandon I hope my experience is better than yours and good luck on your meds.

I have heard of Wellbutrin SR being called an
"activating" antidepressant and I would agree.
It has given me more energy than I had on
others. The only downside of Wellbutrin, at least
as first, is that it makes it hard to fall asleep
at night. When I complained about the insomnia,
my doctor prescribed .5 mg of Klonopin to take at
bedtime and that has worked out great. As to
Wellbutrin's effectiveness as an antidepressant,
I'm not so sure, even though I take 400 mg per day.
I take a lot of other meds in addition to Wellbutrin
so it's hard to say which causes what. At first, I
began losing weight (which I really liked) but when
Celexa was added to the mix I stopped losing it. I
guess the best thing for me about Wellbutrin SR is
that it gives me more energy - at least enough to
start exercising again.

I have been on Wellbutrin for almost a month now. I have been taking 100mg in the morning and 100mgs in the evening.
So far, the only side effect I've had was a little difficulty sleeping the first week. I started taking the second dose at 5pm
instead of bedtime and that eliminated the problem. Aside from that I have felt nothing(literally). I wonder if I need a dose increase
for a theraputic effect.

I have been taking Well for over a year now. It's the only antidepressant that dosent give me unbearable side effects, except for the celexa that was added 6 months ago.

I myself never had any sleep problems with it until my dosage was increased to 600 a day, and for 2 days I only slept 3 hours a night, then went back to normal. I take a dose at 6:30 AM even on the weekends when I don't get up until 11 AM and have no problems getting back to sleep. I am currently on 400 mg a day, since my psyc added 20 mg ritalin sr to the regimen.

It does help as an antidepressant for me, but nothing, I have found, is perfect. I need the combo of an SSRI and something mainly for norepinephrine and dopamine.

Hope you find your answer soon.

PL
