Song on my mind...

Posted by Greg on July 9, 2003, at 14:44:15

There's been so much pain on the boards lately, and this song has been on my mind. I hope everyone's pain ends soon.

Greg

I'd gladly walk across the desert
with no shoes upon my feet
To share with you the last bite
of bread I had to eat

I would swim out to save you
In your sea of broken dreams
When all your hopes are sinking
Let me show you what love means

Love can build a bridge
Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge
Don't you think it's time

I would whisper love so loudly
Every heart would understand
That love and only love
Can join the tribes of man

I would give my heart's desires
So that you might see
The first step is to realize
That it all begins with you and me

When we stand together
It's our finest hour
We can do anything, anything
If we keep believing in the power

Love can build a bridge
Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge
Don't you think it's time
Don't you think it's time

I've been in a Dan Fogelberg kinda mood all day and yesterday. Kind of obsessing. I hate it when I obsess, but there are worse things to obsess about... I thought Zoloft was supposed to get rid of that... Oh well, it's not a historically great time for me right now. I guess a little obsessing won't hurt nuthin'.

Anyway, here are the lyrics to a Fogelberg song I've been listening to a lot in the last 48 hours...

Along The Road

Joy at the start
Fear in the journey
Joy in the coming home
A part of the heart gets lost in the learning
Somewhere along the road
Along the road your path may wander
A pilgrim's faith may fail
Absence makes the heart grow fonder
Darkness obscures the trail

Cursing the quest
Courting disaster
Measureless nights forbode
Moments of rest
Glimpses of laughter
Are treasured along the road
Along the road your steps may stumble
Your thoughts may start to stray
But through it all a heart held humble
Levels and lights your way

Joy at the start
Fear in the journey
Joy in the coming home
A part of the heart gets lost in the learning
Somewhere along the road

And this one also...

Innocent Age

Capture the moment, carry the day
Stay with the chase as long as you may
Follow the dreamer, the fool and the sage
Back to the days of the innocent age
Storybook endings never appear
They’re just someone’s way of leading us here
Waiting for wisdom to open the cage
We forged in the fires of the innocent age

Back at the start it was easy to see
No one to own to, nowhere to be
Deep in the heartlands a sad memory calls to me, calls to me

Fretful horizons, worrisome skies
Tearful misgivings burning your eyes
Yearnings unanswered, reckon the wage you pay
To recapture the innocent age

This one's been bouncing around in there too...

I had a friend was a big baseball player
Back in high school
He could throw that speedball by you
Make you look like a fool boy
Saw him the other night at this roadside bar I was walking in and he was walking out
We went back inside sat down, had a few
drinks but all he kept talking about was

Glory days well they'll pass you by
Glory days, in the wink of a young girl's eye
Glory days, glory days

There's a girl that lives up the block back
in school she could turn all the boys'heads
Sometimes an a Friday I'll stop by and
have a few drinks after she put her kids to bed
Her and her husband Bobby well they split up
I guess it's two years gone by now
We just sit around talking about the old
times, she says when she feels like
crying she starts laughing thinking
about

Glory days well they'll pass you by
Glory days, in the wink of a young girl's eye
Glory days, glory days

Think I'm going down to the well tonight
and I'm going to drink till I get my fill
And I hope when I get old I don't sit
around thinking about it but I probably will
Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture
a little of the glory of, but time slips away
and leaves you with nothing mister but
boring stories of glory days

Glory days well they'll pass you by
Glory days, in the wink of a young girl's eye
Glory days, glory days

Hate the Judds, LOVE the song.
If only love was enough. Sometimes it's not.
