Any reports on BuSpar as booster/sex benefit?

Posted by Buffalo Bill on February 6, 1999, at 17:27:40

Has anyone taken BuSpar as an antidepressant booster, and/or to reverse sexual side effects? I know it's used for anxiety, I don't have that; just need more punch from my AD's and would like someday to have a sex life, before I'm too old to enjoy it.

Thanx!

I'm taking buspar as a boost to remeron. The remeron doesn't seem to be having any effect anymore. Doc has actually increased the Buspar. Seems anxiety is probably a substantial part of my depression. (Will increase Buspar to the max and stay there for a bit before switching from the remeron to something else. Don't want to be switching too many things at once.)
While it seems to be working on the anxiety, I also seem to be sleeping constantly now. I don't know if it's the buspar, or if it's just that the depression is getting deeper again because the remeron is getting less and less effective.
Sexual side effects ? I don't know from sexual side-effects. You gotta have sex to know about sexual side effects. LOLOL
One last, I was not aware of any problem with anxiety myelf either, until this Buspar started to take effect. I have been somewhat surprised at what a difference it has made. Give it a try, if it does nothing for you, say so, and try something different.

I have had success with Wellebutrin. I was shut down and the sex is picking up again. Just watch the irritability level. Suggest you take it in 40 MG tabs instrad of 150 mg tabs like I did. 150 was not doing much and 300 was way too much.
Good luck.
Since I think you are on an anti-depressent this night work. Chat it over with doc.

There is some evidence that Buspar reduces the number of thrusts prior to ejaculation in rats: not been confirmed in humans.

Logically, because of its 5HT1a activity, it should boost the action of all A/Ds that work via 5HT. But having prescribed it a few times as an adjunctive treatment, it seems to be less effective than lithium. Cheers

Have adolescent son with depression and anxiety. Tried Zoloft and Luvox and had tremors. Now on Wellbutrin and has irritablity. Is this common on Wellbrutrin? Will it go away. Irritability seems better than the hopelessness but sure is hard to live with. Also, doc is now adding Buspar for anxiety. Any suggestions here?

Someplace or other I recall seeing irratability as an indicator of depression, perhaps on a lower level. However, the hoplesness may have been masking his inability or unwillingness to express his fears and/or anger and irritability is also a teenage thing so don't leave it solely to the chemcials to solve the conundrum for you.,

I suggest you check out the books section of this website and check out some books like *Undoing Depression*, and *The Beast -- A Journey Through Depression* and whatever books are recommended there or elsewhere (amazon.com) on assisting a family member with depression. As well some good family counselling might be helpful for you all.

Last but not least there's a web-site called Wingsofmadness (http:\\www.wingsofmadness.com or something like that -- if that's not it search for it at www.goole.com) put together by Debra Derrien, who has some great comments from herself and others from the perspective how depression manifests as opposed to all this living better bio-chemcially bibble-babble. Another excellent site is Richard O'connor's http://www.undoingdepression.com which is put together by a health care professional who has had to deal with the Beast personally, rather than through theory (which will only take you so far..).

All the best! Better to deal with it now and do what you can to help him at this early point than down the road...& BTW, ittitability and anger is alright when justifiable and properly communicated, it's violence that doesn't cut it and people often mix the two up.

Yup. Until recently, took BuSpar 60 mg/day (split am and bedtime) and wellbruitrin--200-sr/day split am and bedtime) and(among other things) zoloft 200mg in am. No side effects from combo--but then, wellbrutrin doesn't appear to casue me anxiety by itself. For me, Buspar didn't work at lower doses...maybe it does for others (I stopped BuSpar to cut down on meds.)

I would like to get information about the combination of the two: Buspar and wellbutrin; the side-effects?
Wellbutrin worked like wonder for my depression, but caused anxiety so I stopped it without asking my doctor. I only took for 1,5 weeks that time, deccember 03, so I never got to see if the side-effects would have gone by time. I started Buspar to treat my anxiety disorder in February 04 and now I am willing to add Wellbutrin to tame my depression, I just wonder if the combination is working for someone or not, and which way?

Any comments will be appreciated.

I am prone to type II bipolar behavior (depression and sligh hypomanic behavior and I have been diagnosed with general anxiety disorder with rare panic attacks)

I think Buspar made me more anxious, and just made me feel weird, but now I take Wellbutrin and Prozac and it works great. I get too anxious with just Wellbutrin.

How big doses are you taking? How long time have you been taking those and did you start them together?
(have you suffered anxiety before taking them?)
Thanks.

I am taking twenty miligrams of Prozac and 150 miligrams of Wellbutrin XL. I have always had anxiety, since I was afraid to go to Kindergarten! I have been on Prozac since it first came out, with two years off during which I only took Wellbutrin, but my anxiety got terrible. Now, back on Prozac for about six months, after a brief try on Lamictal. Wellbutrin about the same. I find it helps to take some Wellbutrin breaks.
Good Luck!
