Zoloft or Prozac?

Posted by jp on December 30, 1999, at 12:48:48

Hi,

I suffer from BPD and am currently on Prozac, but cannot exceed a daily dose of 10mg because of severe agitation (I have tried several times). This low dose helps a bit, but is far from effective. Furthermore, I get anxiety and panic attacks from time to time, and dont leave the house much.

I am thinking of asking my doctors to switch me to Zoloft. Is a washout period necessary? And how does Zoloft compare to Prozac, benefits and side-effects? What is the starting dose?

cheers,

jp

Since your on a low dose it shouldn't be a problem, but your dr. would know best. I tried Zoloft and had a bad reaction to it,but that doesn't say it wouldn't work for you.Have you tried Paxil yet? It working for my husband.

You might want to give it a try. Zoloft is supposed to be very good for panic attacks. Zoloft leaves your system faster than Prozac, so you might be able to stand a higher dose.
