BIG Problems Loading Psycho-Babble

Posted by Craig on December 20, 1999, at 1:17:11

> Is anyone else experiencing problems loading Psycho-Babble? I've tried Communicator 4.7 and IE 5 and neither will let me load beyond 9%. I can see Dr. Bob's picture and the archives list and no more. A couple of times I've just let it sit at 9% and about 30 minutes later, the site will load; but even then I experience the same problem trying to open threads. Also, instead of the "Start a New Thread" box at the bottom of the main page, I see the following:
>
>
> My PC (a java problem or something that would effect Communicator and IE both?) or the Psycho-Babble server?
>
> Judy

I'm having the same problem. Most of the time (but not always) I have to reload the page, which works, but then I lose all the yellow "tags" that let me know what's new. Also, the threads used to change color after I read them but they don't anymore. This really makes it difficult to keep track of what I've already read. I'd estimate that this has been going on for a few weeks.

I've had to use Internet Explorer 3.01 to use Psycho-Babble because when I try to load the responses using Netscape Communicator 4.0, that page crashes Netscape. Still, using Internet Explorer causes the problems above about not loading the main page properly. Help! I fear the day when I can't even access this site because of these computer problems and I'll have to go through Psycho-Babble withdrawal. cold turkey.

By the way, I had to start a new thread because replying to Judy's post the proper way wouldn't work. Sorry everybody.

Deb here - have tried to reply to Judy's and Craig's posts but no luck so far, I am having the same problems as listed above.
Deb. (hope this one works)

checking in from work, still not able to see the usual "start a new thread" box. Interesting that when I copied and pasted the words that are at the bottom of the page, they don't show up on the actual post.

Dr. Bob, any word from you?

A quick partial fix...disable Java

I had the 9% problem but like Noa I get down to the POST A NEW THREAD part, and get:

Try again -- repeating code terminated message

I had the 9% problem but like Noa I get down to the POST A NEW THREAD part, and get:

(well it killed the last message here so I'll erase this part, but it the code at the bottom of the page)

and that's where it stops.

What seems to help when you have the 9% problem etc. is to shut off Java/JavaScript temporarily and then reload the page. At least you see all the posts this way.

I am curious about how some folks are not having the problem -- those who are starting new threads.

Good idea about disabling Java. I had some rather weird stuff happen to one of my posts, and I had the
damndest time logging on at one point. I'd get the uppermost part of the list and then...nothing...

PS-Bit computer illiterate here: How does one, um disable Java exactly? It just causes me problems on my
old PowerMac (6100/60-slow as molasses).
