treatments for depression with mixed symptoms

Posted by jennifer margaret on December 14, 1999, at 0:30:49

I have been battling depression for half my life now, an on again, off again maligment that seems to follow little rhyme or reason concerning timing. the depression in intermixed with decreased concentration, some obsessive compulsive tendencies, anxiety and binge eating-- though all of it is the chicken or the egg dillemma. i have taken several medications, mostly SSRIs, none of which had any efficacy to speak of. effexor seemed to work well for a while, but time mitagated its effects. in the past i have kept abreast of new medications and their relavence, but have not been a position to keep atop of such things as of late. i have not taken antidepressant medications for a few months now, but reoccuring symptoms are having me looking for a medication that may help. are there any relatively new medications that may be useful for treating the symptoms i outlayed prior?

thank-you for the time and effort placed into this site and answering my inquiry----

jennifer

hey jennifer -

have you consider a mood stabilizer? My moods were
all over the place, and the cycling was even made
worse by SSRI's. I'm taking Neurontin now and I
think I am getting some real benefit from the
drug.

At first, it did not treat my depression, in fact
it seemed to make it worse. But after about 6 weeks
I noticed my ups and downs were placed farther apart
and not as spikey. ANyway, just a thought..

Sean.
