Effexor and Trazodone

Posted by Ray on December 12, 1999, at 7:44:34

I currently take 225 mg od Effexor during the day and 50 mg. of Trazodonr at night. In Feb. I am going to have an endoscopy exam. I have made the appointment but have not spoken to the G.I. Doc. Will I have to stop either one of these meds if Im sedated for this procedure,

Stopping the effexor would be very hard. I don't think you would have to. The 50 mg of trazodone sounds like a relatively small dose, are you taking it to counteract the sleeplessness caused by effexor?

I had general anasthesia while on ADs (it was a few years ago, I don't remember if it was effexor or paxil at the time). But I would definitely ask your doctor.

Ray: You probably, with you docs ok, could take the meds. When will you have the exam. If you take the meds earlier enough the night before, you may be able to get away with it. Even the day of the procedure may prove to be no problem. The anesthesiologist will be very familar with your meds and should be able to adjust appropriately, they do it all the time.

I'd call the GI's nurse and tell them you would like to continue your meds and when or how early before the procedure you should take them.

Good luck and Blessings,

S. Suggs

The doctors will know what to do. Just let everyone involved know what prescriptions you are taking. They will advize you from there. jamie
