TO ALL PSYCHO-BABBLERS....

Posted by CarolAnn on December 10, 1999, at 7:57:55

This is dumb, but I just have to write a note of appreciation for this site!
Even though I do have people in my life to talk to and "visit" with, I still get quite lonely. Now, I find that I want to come to psych-babble everyday(sometimes twice). There is just something about making connections with you all that helps abate the loneliness. Being new to the internet, I find it fascinating and comforting that I have a circle of "friends" from all over the world! Know that you are all in my heart(I can't believe I'm tearing up right now!), and I pray that all of us will find *peace* within ourselves(and isn't that the main thing we truly want?), and hope in the future! "God bless us, everyone!" CarolAnn

Carol Ann,

Not dumb at all. I appreciate your post. I visit psychobabble many times a day lately, since getting internet service hooked up at work. It is a bit much, because then I get frustrated when there are no new messages since the last visit. I will have to start cutting back the frequency of visits a bit.

But I love this board, and am also grateful to Dr. Bob for creating it and keeping it available for us, and am grateful for all my fellow babblers. Having this contact with fellow strugglers has helped me hang in there.

I too think this sight is great. I discovered it only several weeks ago and the feedback from others has most helpful and supportive. It is lonely struggle at times fighting depression, anxiety or other disorders. Much help can be gained from the exchange of messages in psych-babble.

I feel the same way. I just discovered this site yesterday and I've been reading it all day. I am learning so much about not only these medications, but about so many very brave and inspiring people. I've learned that I am not alone, and that the caring of strangers over distance can feel as supportive as a hug. I find this site to be tremendously inspiring.
I participate in gardening forums and sometimes people there can get pretty opinionated and bitchy. Not here, though. This is the most tolerant and supportive forum I have ever seen on the internet.
I am grateful to all the people who share here, and to Dr. Bob for making this available to us.
Wishing everyone good health,
siri

I came here months ago looking for advice on treating my stubborn anhedonia. I'm still struggling but have found a world of friends to visit everyday (sometimes a lot everyday) to share advice. Sometimes I like to jump in, but I find it very inspiring, entertaining, educational, and uplifting to just be a spectator. Many compliments and regards to all here. My doctor can't give the kind of knowledge and experience I find here. My family and friends are very uncomfortable talking about depression or medication. Psychobabble is a unique and special place unlike any other in the country...scratch that...world....scratch that....universe. There. A place where I can feel at home, comfortable, accepted, and understood by others who really know the nature of the beast called depression.

One question though. I get most bored on weekends and stop in often to see what people are talking about, but there's hardly any activity on weekends. What's up with that? I would think there would a lot more activity here on weekends. I wonder why there isn't. Once again though, many thanks and compliments to everybody. Even though I can't see your faces, I cherish your friendships. JohnL

I have noticed the slowness on week-ends too, John. It is probably the change in routine. During the week, I give myself an hour a day to relax. This often includes my tv, reading, my computer, reading psychobabble or whatever. On the week-ends I have no routine and tend to do different activities than the ones during the week day. These things do not involved winding down with my computer, and checking in on other people's lives.

Like you, I would think it would be the opposite, and psychobabble would be busiest on the weekend. I wonder if all business on the web is at its lowest on the week-ends? Janice

CarolAnn, I agree with you...this is a great site for those of us who struggle with these type of problems. I just stumbled across this site a few days ago, and have already attained a lot of useful information. I find it helpful to hear from others who are going through the same difficulties that I am, and take similar types of medications. I plan to become a regular here in the future.

John, I noticed the weekend lull, too, but it seems a lot of folks check back in on Sunday nights or on Mondays.

CarolAnn:

You bright and gracious mood apparent in your posting indicates to me one of your meds have kicked in! These are not the musings of a depressed person.

Is this the case? Hope so!!! I know you were getting quite frustrated.

Hi everyone,

I just found this site and I have to applaud you all. How brave we are!! I know I shall be stopping by As Often As Pos especially since I am thinking about going back to medication as I am just plain tired of dealing with my symtoms. I meditate everyday etc. etc. blah blah. I guess I having always viewed meds as a crutch (could be my age, 48)so taking meds "means" I am giving in (ie) not being big and brave. I am changing my attitude and learning that there are many, many intelligent, ambitious, talented people like you all out there. My phobias have always been a secret and were an indication to me that "indeed, I was different and less adequate than others". Oh lord, I wish the Net was around 20 years ago along with all the new drugs etc.

Thank God for all of you.

Michele

Yes, I have to admit, when I wrote the post I had recently taken both my Wellbutrin and Adderall morning doses! A few hours later, I did get back to a more usual frame of mind. But, I wouldn't change a word of that post, it's message still rings true!CarolAnn

The main reason that I don't visit here on weekends is the same reason that I don't in the evenings. I don't get on the internet at all during those times, because I have found that everything moves so frustratingly slow! I always assumed this was because so many people were using the internet at those times, but now I don't know, maybe that's just my experience being with Prodigy instead of AOL.CarolAnn

CarolAnn: My wife and I used to use Prodigy. We had the same problem that you encountered and switched over to Mindspring. Wow, what a difference. Everything has drastically increased in speed. We still have an occasion or two where things slow down, ie. at this site, but that is due to a lot of traffic. Bottom line, check out Mindspring, I think they have a special now and the normal monthly is the ususal 19.95. One option I love is their tech support. You can phone, email or my favorite is the on line chat format with a real live tech support. It was a hugh success. They really seem to focus on customer support.

Blessing,

S. Suggs

Hey! you think Prodigy's slow NOW, you should have seen it 13 years ago when it started off as Sears' competitor to CompuServe, GEnie, and AOL. You think it's slow now? Fuggedabowdit!

Hey,

Speaking of ISPs and Compuserve, has anyone tried Compuserve of late? It would appear that
you can get a pretty decent PC for a couple hundred bucks if you agree to sign up to Cmpsrv.
for three years. I love my old Power Mac, but it's feeling pretty pokey these days, and given
the way my treatment has ravaged my bank account, I don't want to spend a lot of money on a
new computer. I'm only aware of this kind of offer through Cmpsrv. Frankly, my ISP is pretty
darn slow and I've thought of dropping them anyway, but I don't want to go from slow to slower
if I can help it.

This site actually is one of the "final straws" that led me to break down and buy a computer. I found Psychobabble while surfing at work in September, right after I had a bad allergic reaction to the first AD that really helped me.
All of you helped me realize I could learn a lot about my condition - which I had managed to deny for 28 years - on the net. Here and in other places, official medical literature and real-life experience. Now I visit at least three or four times a week.
