Someone above mentioned the Pixies...
They simply ruled. Black Francis was/is a mad genius. When
in a particularly bad mood, driving a bit too fast and shrieking
along to "Nimrod's Son" was certainly cathartic, if nothing
else.Any Pere Ubu fans out there?

My gosh, I must be the most musically ignorant thirty-five yr old in existence! I have never heard of any of these groups/singers you all talk about!
What gets me going is 50's & 60' stuff:
Elvis
Jerry Lee Lewis
Sam Cooke
Buddy Holly
Bill Hailey
Most of Motown
The Beatles(and The Monkees, I'm shamed to admit!)
The Rolling Stones
ect...ect...ect...
The only group I really like from the "present"(and their getting up there) is U2!
For a calming influence, I like any soft songs from any of the above. Also, Enya and a bit of other new age(preferably with that "Irish" thing going), Narada, Manheim Steamroller, well you get the picture. Hope this amuses!CarolAnn

There's no such thing as a musical dunce. You just like the oldies.
Who doesn't like the Beatles?

CarolAnn,
Buy Loreena McKinnett's 'The Visit' and listen to a song titled Bonny Portmore. This lady is awesome.
Amazon has a sample under new age.
I went for a hike one early morning about 6 years ago, got back into my car, very early in the morning, and that song came on...I had chills, tears running down my face-so beautiful.
The whole album is wonderful. I really like Natalie Merchant, too.

Intense black/death metal (esp. Morbid Angel, Emperor, etc.) can be very stimulating in lethargic states, but may push the anxious person into overdrive.
