Tegretol

Posted by Dave Biro on November 25, 1999, at 19:29:19

Hello All:

I had viral encephalitis at 26. I survived and was seizure-free until age 40. I went back on Tegretol. I've been having to slightly edge up my dosage and I'm on now between 700 and 800 mgs/day. (I'm 6'4" 200lbs). I hope I don't have to take more, because I'm concerned by several things: one, I've developed a nasty cardiac arrhythmia that usually occurs when I go from a standing to lying posture; my heart skips beats in time (beat, beat, beat, nothing/beat beat beat nothing, etc). Just thinking about it can bring it on.

What's more, in the last week I've chipped two molars. Bruxism due to needing more Tegretol?

I also read something good about choline?

Thank you,

Dave B.

hi dave, i'd STRONGLY suggest you going to your doctor right away and asking for thorough physical examination and blood work. for me, when i was on a brief stunt of tegretol, i had a rare side effect of immunosuppression which killed off many of my white blood cell count and also platelet count. i physically felt so tired that simple tasks like sittng up was difficult but would never have known the seriously of what was happening in the body until the blood work came back (with a frantic call from my doctor to stop taking tegretol immediately). please get it checked out?
