Clozarill verses Lithium?

Posted by BOO on November 22, 1999, at 21:38:00

The Dr. is thinking of making a switch from Lithium to Clozarill. What is your opinion?
Is it often used for Manic-Depression with good success? Any information would be helpful. Thank you.

Clozaril is superior to most antipsychotic medications in effectiveness and lack of side-effects except for the remote chance of agranulocytosis, that is, low white cell blood count, and increased chance of seizures. The Clozaril requires regular blood tests to check the white cell count. Alot of people have a problem with this, but once you get use to it its no big deal. It can be taken with Depakote to reduce the chance of seizures and the Depakote is effective against manic depression too. I would recommend trying it.
