MOCLOBEMIDE,DEXEDRINE,KETOCONAZOLE cardiac effects

Posted by Anna P. on November 10, 1999, at 23:00:15

Dr. Bob and everyone! Does anyone now how toxic can be the combination
mentioned above? I took Moclobemide and Dexedrine for some time, but they wore off.
Then I took Ketoconazole for an infection with that combo(and noticed its antidepressant effect)
Soon after that I noticed heart and chest pain, and I stopped Moclobemide and Dexedrine.
Since than when I used the small amount of Xanax or Atarax, I get the heart pain. Does anyone knows why?
I know now about Ketoconazole toxic interactions.
Also, I regret I had to stop Moclobemide as I found my miracle combo with Moclobemide and Revia.
I appreciate any input.
Anna

What do you mean by "heart pain?" (How do you know it's in your heart?) Some medications can cause gastroesophageal reflux; and chest pain is often a symptom of anxiety.

Ketoconazole can increase blood levels of some drugs by inhibiting their metabolism. I don't know if moclobemide is among these.

Anyway, Xanax has no cardiotoxicity to speak of, and Atarax most likely would not at normal doses (could cause anticholinergic toxicity in overdose).

First of all, I appreciate your responding.
I don't know for shure where the pain is coming from. Also, I didn't know about Ketoconazole toxic effects before, and my physician didn't worne me about them. My problems started since I took Moclobemide, Dexedrine and Ketoconazole. I had drug interaction and EKG done, but my physician said everything is fine. It was back in September.
He gave my EKG results yesterday - sinus tachycardia. I know now that Ketoconazole probably increased the level of both medications. I'm also aware that tachycardia can be caused by either Moclobemide or Dexedrine. Too bad for me since Moclobemide is a good medication, and had no other side effects.
I've lost response to the most antidepressants, and I found my "miracle" recently in Moclobemide and Naltrexone. Naltrexone simply brought back my response to Moclobemide. I'm off medications now, and I'm not shure if in that situation I can ever go on Moclobemide again.
I will go to see the cardiologist next week.
Also, I will see my psychiatrist in three weeks, so I hope I will survive that time.
Anna P.
