Still itching, 9 days off Paxil

Posted by Aylse on November 9, 1999, at 0:40:32

I have been slowing dropping my Paxil because of intolerable itching. I have been off Paxil completely for 9 days now and am still itching. Depressed AND itching, ain't fair. Anyway, is it possible I am still itching from Paxil or Paxil withdrawl? The only other medicine I take is thyroid because my own thyroid was surgicaly removed. Shouldn't I be over Paxil withdrawl?
Dang it!

When my daughter went off the paxil her flu-like symptoms lasted for about 3 days and the itching stopped before then. So, I don't know what is still causing you to itch but you had better talk to a doc. Do you have any kind of rash or hives or anything besides just the itchy skin? (my daughter didn't, just itched and itched.)

Paxil has a short half-life, and by nine days I would think it would be washed out of your system, I could be wrong. Hopefully, someone else knows a little more than me. Good luck.

I was allergic to Paxil, severe itching and hives. Once I discontinued the Paxil, it took almost 2 weeks for the itching to stop. I still had the hives and I figured they just needed time to heal. I hope you stop itching soon, I know how horrible it is.

I had no reaction to paxil (or should I say no reactions to anything while ON paxil), but severe withdrawal going off -- and thank you, Noa, for the "Henny-Penny" moniker for my sky-is-falling free-floating-anxiety syndrome ;^) -- and it took me 4-5 weeks to beat that. Still, it seems to me that if the itch comes from having it in you (instead of NOT having it in you), you should be losing it soon (from dove's comments about its short half-life).

I dunno -- the neighborhood experts out there may be able to say more about whether side effects and withdrawal effects can be identical, but my simple sense of it votes probably not. Hang in there!
