final thoughts on m sexual dys.: prozac vs effexor

Posted by jp on November 3, 1999, at 13:31:46

Anyone have any information on male sexual dysfunction
prozac vs effexor? I have heard that with effexor, the
higher the dose, the less the dysfunction. with prozac
one can augment with gingko biloba. but at normal dosages,
which AD is likely to cause the least problems?

James here...

For me the clear winner is Effexor, all the ssri's had this effect (no desire, function yes, so maybe no desire to function ? hehe) Your milage may vary. It seems that the odd ball AD's have less of this side effect than TCA's and SSRI's generally. Again, your milage may vary.

What a perfect example of how we all respond differently. For me, bad sexual dysfunction with Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor. But no probs at all with Prozac. Matter of fact, my desire and ability is more intense than ever in my life. Go figure. Who knows. So while James does best with Effexor I do best with Prozac. There is no clear cut answer. Just gotta try it to see how it goes.
