Two antidepressants at the same time?

Posted by B.B. on August 14, 1999, at 19:06:05

I have a question...Is it safe to take two antidepressants at the same time? I've been taking wellbutrin for about 3months now and it has done a nice job on relieving my depression. The only side effect for me is constant anxiety. I asked my doc if I could take klonopin for this and he said that effexor would help me with this. I have just started this combo and have been searching the web trying to find some info on taking these two meds concurrently. So far I haven't found much on the subject, anyone here experienced this?

Yes, it is

BB,

I have been on Wellbutrin and Effexor at the same time,
also along with trazadone and Ambien concurrently.

I was on too many drugs at the time -- 3 AD's and
one sleeping pill. My GOOD doc got me whittled
down to Effexor and trazadone. Now, I'm on Wellbutrin
and trazadone. There doesn't seem to be any problem
taking Wellbutrin and Effexor together.

The reason my doc kept the trazadone in my treatment
is for my chronic insomnia.

Good luck.

Absolutely!

My former dr said that you could never take more than one at a time, but she was wrong. I take Effexor and Prozac, which are working for me. Other people in a support group I sometimes manage to get to take two, three, or even more. It depends on what works for you. For me, the Effexor not only fixed my anxiety right away, it boosted the Prozac, and so I'm happy as a clam - except that who knows whether a clam really is happy?

Still, combos work sometimes when one drug alone won't. For example, sometimes one drug will cause toxicity at a high dose, but a lower dose is ineffective unless given along with another to boost its effectiveness. Did that make sense? I'm a bit tired tonight.

Anyway, drug cocktails seem to work better than single drugs much of the time.

Am currently taking Serzone plus Luvox, for OCD and depression. The Serzone really decreases the anxiety and uplifts my mood; I'm hoping the Luvox will diminish my obsessions and compulsions.

Has anyone else tried this combination before? Or similar combinations? Thanks!
